Basically there are three stories, separated into 2 games. The first one is Muv-Luv http://vndb.org/v93 which contains Extra (1st part, highschool drama) and Unlimited (2nd part, military story), then there's Muv-Luv Alternative (3rd part, scifi and mech/alien warfare) http://vndb.org/v92
Install Muv-Luv and then install the English translation patch. Same with Muv-Luv Alternative. http://amaterasu.is.moelicious.be/index.php?page=downloads

ahh... i see... looks like i need to play Muv-Luv 1st then Muv-Luv Alternative to understand the game better..

The translation of Muv-Luv Alternative was done a long time ago, though I guess not everyone knew where to get it. Its one of the best VN ever; Fate, Tsukihime, Clannad, Steins;Gates, and Ever17 beat it in terms of presentation, mood, emotion, and pure hot-bloodedness but in terms of pure plot, Muv-Luv Alternative is probably the best of all time. Not that Muv-Luv Alternative wasn't great in the prior mentioned areas. If only they didn't have the tentacle scene, made me feel like I was playing normal senseless hentai for its duration. It was strangely erotic though, nothing like seeing your favorite heroine violated.

About the games, I just started Katahane so I can't say much. I'm still to play Shikkoku no Sharnoth. But you could go to vndb to check the ratings of the games.
