Question: Has anyone figured out how to prevent units from being abducted? Because it rather sucks to have your army slowly reduced by abductions.

Well for anyone else who's started and come to notice the wiki article is fairly spartian, so here's some helpful info:

For each turn the following occur
Prison duties & Level up selection
Event selection and building
Character interaction
Force deployment
Attacking & Defending

During the prison here are the jists of your choices
こます (sex)
懐柔 (invite)
拷問 (torture) {money/items/info}
始末 (kill)
調教の館送り (brothel)
刑務所行き (send to prison)

During the chat phase
情報 Information (current stats)
こます It is crowded. (sex loyalty)
臨時ボーナス Interim bonus (bribe for loyalty)
軍事訓練 Military training (skill training)
政治訓練 Political training (earnings increase)

During the level up your choices are
攻撃力 attack
命中 accuracy
回避 evasion
体力 stamina
運 luck

Some thinks to keep in mind
you lose first 2 battles regardless
on 5/1 battle with green starts
on 8/1 battle with purple starts
on 1/4 you need to put troop s to defend the home sector for an arena fight
on 2/1 after the arena fight the battle with pink starts

You can only save at the start of any week.
Before the debt is paid off you have to visit your lender once a month.
If your getting a game over, odds are you either missed a debt payment, an important character died or there is some event you needed to attend
