I don't think this game is bad so much as it is extremely disappointing. I mean I'm having fun playing the game, but everything (with exception to the sound) is just very low quality. This game may have been fairly well received about four years ago, but after that "gameplay" demo at E3 (or PAX/wherever) that got everybody's hopes up...
it's just not acceptable.
Yes, it's not, and I think your fanboism is holding you back from the correct, but harsh assessment of this game as a pile of bull shit (for double entendre purposes which involve the E3/PAX demo). This is a bad game. You'll admit it eventually.
If you've paid attention to my posts before then you've noticed that I tend to rant about games being morphed into other, more commercially established games, for broader appeal. That was the case for Dead Space and Mass Effect, but it's not here. This is an outright cod clone. If anyone has ever played a modern cod game, they'll sense the familiarity immediately. This game has the same dumb fuck human AI that has an aversion to cover and runs toward you as you shoot, while the aliens seem to have been struggling with a down syndrome epidemic among their kind. Half the time you have to rely on your equally inept—and even more retarded—ally to open doors because this game needed the authentic cowadoody experience. This is not to mention the horrible checkpoint placements, some of which will have you go into a short coma to protect you from the agonizing boredom of having to wait for your allies to finally shut the fuck up and open the door in front of them
again.
"But Rbz, there are references to the Aliens movie throughout the game and shit," says a fictional person who is desperately trying to find any redeemable quality, but is inadvertently assisting my tirade as I transition to my next point in response to theirs: all the references and fanservice only serve to remind the player what a disservice this game is to the Aliens franchise. It may make you excited, but it doesn't make the game any less shit. There's also the irritating clipping that has enemies and allies running through you. It turned the power loader battle into the most frustrating event in the entire game.
Oh yea, I beat the game on hardened.

Duke Nukem
It's funny because this game is Duke Nukem all over again, except I can confidently pin the blame on gearbox this time around. It was gearbox's decision to outsource the development while making Borderlands 2 its top priority. I'm sure the janitor got to tweak colonial marines a bit while everyone else was busy scouring reddit for memes. Gearbox also marketed the game as if they created it based on the demo, having developers talk to a camera about how fans will love this totally not-bull-shitty canon title.
Randy Pitchford is a persuasive guy. He seems very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the product his company is developing, which, along with his confident tone, helps sell the idea. In light of everything that has occurred, what I just said serves to out him as a lying, manipulative cunt; a typical corporate cocksucker. It makes sense for him to be CEO. So, with regard to gearbox's rep, I hope it is greatly diminished, functioning as a bull shit deterrent.
