I just realized that both Battlefield 4 and Every Cod game as far as I know doesn't allow you to see your player's shadow. Sure your gun is affected by the lighting and shadows of other things but have you seen the shadow of your character when you turn around in a well lit area? Someone tell me I'm wrong or this may have killed the experience for me. I know it sounds pathetic but why waste time on making a game look real when you forget one major thing that if gone it defies real world logic?
That might be due to that they (player character) not having bodies (other than a contact cylinder). If they add bodies that would be more work than necessary (you can't see the character) and more things for the game to process. Since they don't bother with a body for the camera they probably feel that adding a detailed shadow would be too much of a cost expense and time waste.
Also I don't think they're engines use real-time lighting and shadows for anything other than maybe the arms and the weapon (maybe battlefield, but I'm under the impression that CoD is completely scripted). So the shadows might be pre-rendered to look the way they do.
I don't know much about the specific capabilities of both of their engines, this is only a guess.
