If only Final Fantasy games had New Game+ features (I think only Crisis Core and X-2 do)... That would be one of the few possible improvements to the series that I can think of. In fact, the New Game+ feature could make lots of games better.
The DS remake of Final Fantasy IV has a New Game+ feature, but you can only play through three times... I guess they didn't want you to be able to give every character every augment.
As far as end game items go, at the end of Secret of Mana for the SNES you get the spell Mana Magic, which finally allows you to use the Mana Sword, but you can only do so in the final boss fight unless you use a glitch to get an extra Sword Orb so that you can upgrade the Dragon Sword into the Mana Sword permanently. Really the same thing goes for all the top tier weapons in SoM in a way. Normally you can find the Orbs to upgrade the items after defeating bosses or in specific chests related to the story, but in order to get the final orbs you have to continually hunt enemies in the Mana Fortress (final area) until you get the orb you need to drop, which is extremely rare. In about 150+ hours I only ever maxed out the bow and spear...
Also, does anyone else but me remember the secret Hadouken technique in Megaman X? All that effort to unlock it, and so little time to enjoy it.
