And Reznov was in my imagination? Why? How? Also, how the hell was Reznov able to open, hand me things, and help me fight off enemies!!!"
Kinda like Fight Club. Mason was the one that did all those things.
That is EXACTLY how I explain the Resnov subplot in Black Ops.
Also two games with HORIBLE endings. The games themselves are good, but the endings aren't.
Halo 2 ends the game with the Master Chief on a Forunner ship heading for Earth and Cortana left behind on a Flood-infested Covenant warship, leaving us with questions that we know won't be answered until a few years later.
RAGE. While it may not be a "cliffhanger ending" to the full definition, as I doubt that Id would be able to crank out a sequel anytime this decade, it has THE most abrupt ending I've ever seen in a video game. You're running through an enemy controlled fortress, blasting mutants and soldiers alike as if you were in some sort of twisted shooting gallery. Then, when you get to the center of the base, you push a button and all of a sudden the game ends. You see a short cutscene of the other arks being opened and the occupants released into the wasteland, cut to credits. That's it. No huge bossfight like you'd expect from any other Id game and no confrontation with General Cross, who was set up as the big bad since early on in the game. Insead, you get a shootout with some pots and pans soldiers and some new breed of mutants that are nowhere near as powerful as some of the other enemies that you've killed beforehand. I still love the game, but that ending really put a lot of potential to waste.
