Synchros didnt make Yugioh retarded though, it gave a boost the TCG desperately needed. It added more strategy to the game. Exceeds are doing the same, but the TCG's game speed has increased like tenfold due to some other cards before Exceeds. But now with Exceeds, cards like Tengu, Sangan, Goblin Zombie, Tour Guide to the Underworld and others are just stupidly powerful because of the TCG rulings for Exceeds.
The only reason Xyzs are stupid in the TCG is because Kevin decided to make effects like Sangan and Tengu work with them over here, so that people would like his TCG exclusives(Tour Guide has shot up to over $100). In the OCG, Xyzs are very balanced, but still frequently used.

If Grapha is discarded from the hand to the graveyard by a card effect (not a cost), he can destory any 1 card on the field. Not only that, but he can special summon himself from the graveyard just by adding any 1 Darkworld card from the field to hand. This is more powerful than Red-Eyes simply because he can destory a card. Plus, Red-Eyes cant special another copy of itself from the hand or graveyard, while Grapha can.
If the Darkworld player has cards on the field or in the hand that allows him/her to discard by card effect, Grapha would be a pain in the ass, especially if the player has multiples in the hand..
