Gamespots recent contest "All Time Greatest Video Game Hero", which started Sept. 1st, came to an end on Oct. 15th, concluding that Dr. Gordon Freeman from Valve's Half-Life and Half-Life 2 is the greatest video game hero in currant video gaming history.
A very close 2nd place at 44.2% was held by the well known Mario from countless Nintendo games.
Aside from Mario, Gordon's oponents ranged from Snake in the Metal Gear Solid serise(a VERY close match with 50% for each), to Link from Nintendo's Zelda(beaten by 59%).
In celibration of the victory, Valve has reduced ALL Half-Life games by 55.8%(the total % of votes for Gordon) for the weekend(Oct. 17th through the 18th). So if you were on the fence as to weather or not you wanted to try a Half-Life game(which you should), now would be the perfect time to see for yourself why Gordon Freeman was voted All Time Greatest Game Hero.

The cool part was valve reducing the game price - but if you haven't already picked up half-life then I doubt many will now. Of course I'm pretty sure most were left at the end with a "Wtf?" just happend feeling. Gordon Freeman may be saving humanity from an alien invasion but he also started the alien invasion albeit on accident. How he beat snake and link is also beyond me.

I like the Half-Life series as much as the next guy, but Gordon Freeman is anything but special when it comes to video game heroes.
