I've seen plenty reviews of the game and I don't even know which I can trust.
Some make it sound like sure, the game is hard, but it's super awesome and you'll love it. Then there's another I read which said that the game is horrible because the checkpoint frequency is shit and that you get insta-killed arbitrarily and can only get passed the area without dying if you are clairvoyant. I'm on the fence with this game until I am sure that the constant deaths won't make the game unfair and ruin my experience.
It wont, you instead become addicted to the gameplay and don't mind the deaths (or atleast to the point it ruins the game for you). Think along the lines of mario games - you'll die but eventually you'll find a way to stop dying and beat the level. And when you do it is awesome.
If you play online then you'll see other adventurers as well and can read notes left behind that leave warnings of traps and what not or enemies ahead - although I've heard that these messages can be assholes trying to trick you. But I noticed that you can rate the notes left behind and so far I haven't ran across a note with false information.
Downside of the game is the difficulty (mainly getting used to the difficulty, eventually you'll adjust) but the upside is it is very gratifying when you beat a boss or any progess you make really. Plus the game has a great dark evil atmosphere to it.
