do reviews rule you?

the reviews are to be take into consideration, but don't let it be your sole reason for playing a game. I think if you like it just get it. Especially if you a long time fan. I play Dynasty Warrior and that game tend to get shitty review. Review point out element of the games you could take it or don't. A review is a good tool to use if you step into unknown area

\YRah, because people will tell that it's repetitive and a boring hack and slasher, but there's more to it than just gameplay. That's why I have all the series, even the fighting one. lol

its good to not be butthurt about things...

what you got to do is know the reveiwers taste and outlook... and heck sometimes reveiwing yourself is best...

though I don't actually have much money so... reveiws do help a little

I would actually like to become a game reveiwer... but I am sure not many people would bother reading my thoughts about games anyway =/

I listen to reviews to get other peoples thoughts on the game, but I don't let them affect my thoughts on it. I read summaries on games and see if the game itself interests me, not the opinions of others

To an extent, they're very good for a general overview of game mechanics, music, atmosphere.

I find youtube to be more helpful these days. Wait a bit after the game is released and just look for videos of gameplay.

No, they give me opinions/whatever, but I still choose what I buy.

For example, even if reviewers didn't like Metro 2033, I still went and bought it (not to mention love it).

I read them and take them into consideration, but ultimately I make the decision based on my own feelings. Though game play videos on youtube seem to sway my opinion pretty fast.

Definitely not, only a source of insight into the game. If I think the game is good enough, or the flaws aren't that bad then I go and get the game. I'm never the type to instantly buy stuff because I don't want to regret a purchase.

Reviews don't mean much to me. They help in pointing out things that are good and bad in a game but in the end, it's just another person's opinion of the game. Reviews can't always be trusted unless they are read through thoroughly instead of just looking at the rating i.e _/10

Personally I do a few things before deciding on buying a game:

1. Do a background check on the game story to see if it interests me.
2. Watch some game previews/demos of the game.
3. Look at reviews from both players and site reviewers.
4. Study the pros and cons of the game.
5. Buy the game.(or not.)

I used to really depend on reviews until I realized that some of the games that got low ratings were games that I actually really enjoyed. Don't let a bad rating make you miss out on a game which may have great potential.

I don't let them rule me, but they *are* a pretty good source of information if I didn't have any contact with given game before (like playing demos and all).

I've been reading one gaming magazine I try to regularly import from my homeland (one of the paperbacks, yes.) and those guys haven't really failed me when it came to solid gameplay mechanics description or bug-listing. The magazine in question was also responsible for me getting several great games I'd normally completely ignore.

I usually check the game trailer but not the reviews. most of them are pretty biased to japanese games. they gave Ar tonelico such a bad score but when I play it I love it

I don't use game reviews that much if I had to give a percentage it would be around 5% in my decision process. I ignore any reviews around Japanese games. I usually look for players reviews coming for games I don't know about and hardly interested in, but willing to give it a chance(a good 25%). Some games that had good reviews, but when I play it I quickly get sick of it and just can't get into it, so pretty much I don't really use reviews it is nice to read through though when I'm bored.

I wonder if people really read reviews or just look at the rating and the little boxes full or pros and cons. Usually if the cons are petty things I'll read the review just to see what they mean by it but usually I'll pass it up.

I usually go by the reviews that G4 gives, and the reviews I pick up from friends that have the game before I do if said game has been out for awhile. In the end I'm sure that it all comes down to how much I really want the game, but more often than not I will go by what reviews say about the game before purchasing.

Also, having demos that you can play also helps out when you are looking to buy a game.

They starting to but some games have to interest you like asura wrath that a good game so is duke nukem forever.

Oh btw I wanted to thank everyone who posted in my thread, this is my first one ever on Fakku and I'm shocked that it had this many posts. As for reviews I just quit looking at the scores from the reviewer all together and go by the community's ratings now. One vs. Many

I usually check out the game on youtube before buying, but still most game review scores are fairly accurate, unlike movie reviews that are hardly ever.

But then again it's all an opinion thing

People love to take a simpler way.
I have to admit that I do that most of the time.

But if it's the game that I really expected, then I will read the whole reviews just for the sake of it.
