Huh??...why is gameplay got something to do with VNs??..
It's just my prorities. Sometimes playing a random VN with no other things except "a mouse-click-a-thon" will sometimes make me bored, if there is no strong story plot.
So a little bit of status raising, fighting, or other gimmicks will make it more interesting, since it's going to be hard to finish it if an ending needs a certain status.
For example, most games created by ALICE SOFT has many gameplay gimmicks.
-C++ Pastel Chime = Dungeon RPG with Trivia questions.
-Beat Angel Escalayer = Rasing the stats of Escalayer to fight monsters.
or the recent Pajamas Soft games.
-Prism Ark = RPG battle system.
-Princess witches = Battle card system.
or games created by LEAF
Utawarerumono = Strategy RPG game.
Tears to Tiara= RTS-RPG system
FullAni = Mahjongg
Or one simple yet legendary title "Brave Soul" with it's Real-Time RPG system.
