Why did they decide to ask money for it this time? Because of popularity, or is this third game significantly better compared to the first 2?
Ah well, judging from the screens of Narci3, it's covering a whole new setting, so that's okay. Nothing which we will miss about the original story.

Well, it was inevitable, given that Narcissu side 2nd already had unusually high production values for a freeware doujin game. The fact that Kataoka paid eufonius to do the theme song and still manage to keep Narci2 free is an amazing feat in and of itself. I assume it got to the point where they could no longer keep consistent quality and keep it free at the same time.
Having other well-known writers in the eroge community write a few of the stories probably did it as well.
And from what I hear from discussions about it, some parts of it are vaguely connected to the previous works while others are not.
