Do you think it'd be a better idea to buy a new PS2 or run the emulator?
The emulator can only run a few games perfectly and beyond. Games like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy run without flaw and can even go at 90fps and 300fps (I did for KH2FM and FFX respectively) while other games like Star Wars Battlefront and Ratchet and Clank are much more difficult to run (actually it is impossible to run Battlefront) because of the A.I. count. I mean in Battlefront, the computer needs to track each A.I. (so 400 right there), it needs to monitor each and every laser bolt and explosion and watch the health for them all plus you. I managed to get it to run at 15fps. I could dodge every shot at that speed. Not to mention, you need a very powerful computer. I could run FFX on my desktop cleanly but on my laptop (4gb of ram) it stuttered quite a bit.
Otherwise, I am rather happy that the PS2 is being retired. It had a long life. Although, I am pissed at Sony for their decision because with the PS2 out of the way now, more games should be re-released for the PS3 (They already have Ratchet and Clank and Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD ReMix (Kingdom Hearts 1 Final Mix + Chains of Memories and scenes from 358/2 Days), God of War etc) but with the PS4 (or whatever they call if) on the horizion it is unlikely that some great games will not be ported over. Although you could just say I'm a sourpuss since I have the newer model of the PS3 that is not backwards compatible.
Either way, the PS2 deserves to rest peacefully within its grave.
The first console I bought was the PS1. I was still a kid back then, and video games weren't exactly what we talked about in school, so I didn't get involved too much, i.e. Looney Tunes Racing and Digimon Rumble Arena.
Then along came the PS2, with all its excellent graphics. I think that's where I actually got into playing RPGs, starting with Kingdom Hearts 2 and then Final Fantasy XII. I don't know why, but some time ago, it just... died. That's where the PS3 comes into the picture, I guess.
I suppose you're right. The PS2 had a nice, long life. We'll always remember it, even if other don't.
And thanks for the advice on the emulator btw.
