This is a remake of the old thread, since some strange glitch occurred and the thread disappeared from the topic listings. It can still be found in the masterlist, though.
Some info we know about the game:
+ XIII-2†²s story begins in Gran Pulse after the ending of XIII.
+ The story will feel like it expands out from the after story that was included in the booklet with Xbox 360†²s Final Fantasy XIII International.
+ Outside of Lightning, other characters will appear in the game in unexpected forms. Some will see major changes.
+ XIII-2 is a full sequel. You’ll learn some of the things that took place in the background scenes of XIII.
+ The story will be more dark and mysterious than XIII’s.
+ The story will focus on the goddess Etro.
+ The game will not have the pop feel of Final Fantasy X-2 (I think this means no dancing Lightning booooo)
+ The battle system will be an evolved form of XIII’s ATB system.
+ They’re listening to opinions both inside and outside of Square Enix and from outside of Japan regarding characters, story and interface.
+ There may be a difficulty setting.
+ Regarding Final Fantasy XIII-2, Nomura reveals that the key world in the game will be different from the world of Final Fantasy XIII. However, FFXIII’s world will also appear in the game.
We're getting more news at E3 on Monday, including a playable demo for the press, and a separate one for the public. I don't know if this means it'll be released on PSN and Xbox Live, though.
And, some screens:
And a teaser trailer: http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6315324/
I was really hoping they would completely change the battle system to something more similar to Kingdom Hearts or at least more involved like X-2. The auto-battling aspect was what really killed XIII for me. Sooooo boring!
Why did they have to make this stupid new battle system? Final Fantasy X battle system worked fine.Every Final Fantasy after that just kept getting worse in game play.
Looking forward to this game. I played XIII so I might as well get this one to since it's taking place after the events of XIII. I'm also curious as to how they will evolve the ATB system.
New trailer was posted yesterday. Looks interesting.
Lightning's dead? Cool.
World's gonna end? Cool.
Monster taming? Cool.
Nope, not buying it. A lame twist, a generic plot element, and a generic, and also boring game mechanic. Though I'm not sure how it'll work out in the end. Hopefully better than I think.
The release date also seems to have been pushed back to Early 2012.
A lot of hype just returned for me. Decisions that affect the story (possibly), climate systems (a small mechanic used in Chapter 6 of XIII), map completion percentages, cinematic action (not really hyped, but it's better than sitting there mashing A and LB all day). And one more thing...
MONEY FROM BATTLES. No more stupid "Can be sold for a premium." drops. We can now get money just from battling.
