Forgetting to save

That's my problem with xenosaga episode II right now.
I played once and got to the final boss and then my memory card was left in another state.
I play again and I passed the second disk (I hate this one part of the game) and got pretty far, but got stuck at this one fight where I wasn't strong enough to beat, but for some reason I couldn't go back and level some more because of a fucking switch.

Then I started over again and got past the part I hated and a child my mom was watching was on my PS2 saved over my file.

Now my ps2's volume doesn't work.
I'm destined to not finish that game.
