Lol what are you guys talking about? Gnasher should be your primary weapon of use on Gears. It takes skill to use, unless you guys are raging about the sawn off then I can understand. Sawn off is not OP but it's a stupidly designed weapon. Catered for noobs so they can get easy kills. Don't need to aim and just hug an enemy to get instant kill, it's a bad weapon for skilled players but a good weapon for noobs. Also that retro lancer is stupid, cqc don't even need to aim and just spray and you'll beat shotgun users, and if you use feathering then it's accurate enough to down people at mid quickly. In CQC retro vs shotgun it's in the retro's favor. Normal lancer is the weakest AR in this version again, and Hammerburst and Retro are just flat out better in combat. Normal lancer is only good at area suppression with that clip size but is just weak. Hammer and retro down people fast if you know how to aim with them.
This is when I need to speak up.
First off, this isnt Gears of War 1 or Gears of War 2, where you just switch to Gnasher, pop off a few shots for an active reload then engage in firefights head on with Gnasher being your primary weapon of choice. Gears of War 3 no longer influences that same remedial play style like the previous two games. The game was redesigned to create a true mixture of firefights that DO NOT revolve around just the Gnasher for CQC.
CQC fights WILL consists of the Gnasher, Retro and Sawed-off. Even though the Sawed-off is mad retarded, it was designed to combat the Gnasher and Retro at close range (at least in pubs, Sawed-Off wont be allowed once MLG/GB refines there ruleset). Another obvious reason why this game doesnt influence the Gnasher as a primary weapon anymore is simply due to the fact that melees no longer have that homing effect it used to when you melee'd someone, thus why 2 piece'ing no longer exist, which is a good thing (just imagine getting 2 pieced by someone using a Sawed-off..).
About the Retro Lancer, yes, it's quite powerful at mid to close range. But thats ONLY at mid to close range, it's suppose to be that way. And it's main design was to combat the Gnasher. Also saying the Gnasher automatically loses to Retro at close range is false. It's about 6-4 in Retro's favor for sure, but it's not impossible. I've beaten out Retros on many occasions with my Gnasher just by strafing and making "smart" wall bounces around cover into well placed hard aims.
And about the Original Lancer. It's definitely NOT the weakest AR in the game. The Lancer has the most stopping power out of the 3, and it's highly effective with teamshot and players trying to rush you down. It was also like this in Gears of War 2. And I prefer the Lancer over the Retro if I'm not using the Hammerburst. Plus the Lancer received a nice buff in damage without active reloads. With an active reload, you can down someone in a matter of seconds, Lancers hurt alot.
