I started playing VNs about a year and a half ago (I forgot what exactly made me play my first one, Wanko to Kurasou) and I rushed to play all the "best" ones. I've played FSN, Tsukihime, Yume Miru Kusuri, Snow Sakura, WtK as said above, and a couple others whose names I can't quite remember at the moment. Then I played a couple more VNs, and I just found myself getting bored/dissapointed because none of them quite lived up to the VNs I had played first.
I played all the best VNs as soon as I got into the genre, and now I feel like I've spoiled myself because I can't find anything else that matches those. What do I do, Fakku?
You should either try playing VN's with a fresh mind (not sure if that would help) or go try playing a non-traslated VN if you are able to understand with AGTH (Translation Aggregator is also good). If you can play or willing to play non-translated VN's then you will open yourself up to more choices. Just playing translated games does limit you to a certain point I must admit.
I've played to this point is FSN and Shuffle! and Soul Link currently working through Soul Link.
Anyways back to VNs I'm played. Ever 17 is also one of it.
Almost completely beaten Sengoku Rance 7 Several paths completed XP
I think that's it for me. It takes me so farkin long to get through VNs because I don't have much time but I love the ride.
Edit: Forgot to reply to OP, Don't worry too much about it just take your time and enjoy stuff. It did take me like 4 months to finish FSN. It couldn't be helped cuz it had a impact on me.
There is a never ending supply of VN's. If you somehow run out of VN's to play, it probably means you are setting your standards high or have an ideal standard set already. Try other genres that you may have avoided, if anything it kills time till you pick up something else.
If you managed to enjoy stuff like Fate/Stay Night and Snow Sakura then you should be able to enjoy pretty much any visual novels other than generic nukige. Try some non-hentai visual novels for a change, they tend to be on a higher level of literary value.
i feel the same way but for another reason i have played pretty much every vn listed here that are worth playing minus a few that even though everybody thinks are good i cant get in the mood to download them. my frustation lies in the fact that japansese is so damn hard to learn and i get frustrated beucause i had a similar expirience with pc gamesbecause most of the decent pc games were in english and the dubbed version in spanish were as crappy as hell so i thaugh myself english and problem solved but with japanese i got screwed really bad and i cant enter the world of the unstranlated VN T T !!!!!!!!!!
as for your problem the only solution i can think of is that you check the top 10 tread and see the vn novels other people have found good that arent listed in the recommend section i have found a few that are pretty good that way
1. Yes that was a wrong move playing the great ones first.
2. Play untranslated ones to clear your head.(being frustrated w/ using agth and atlas when it fails helps =P)
3. Just play and enjoy it.Don't Compare them to one another!
4. When all else fails try what chaos suggested and take a break.Maybe a year and you'll crave even the crappeist ones
