I was merely saying that as an example of how FF7 is not a challenge unless you artificiality place handicaps on yourself. First time I played FF7, I used "Attack", "Cure1/2/3" + All Materia, "Revive2", and "Summon". That's it. Aside from the Weapons, no actual strategy is necessary for defeating a boss. My third play-through was the no Materia challenge. Just "Attack" and "Item" there, and by "Item" I am exclusively referring to healing items. Add on top of that, FF7 was one of the first five RPGs I played, and you can see that familiarity is not needed either.
Aside from speed runs and low-level games, the only way to actually make strategy a necessity is to play something extreme like an initial equipment, no item, command Materia only game.
