why the fuck would I pay microsoft money every month for the privilege to do something I can already do for free?
Hey, it's all an opinion so if you don't like it that's fine with me, but why such an aggressive tone? Paying a small amount that comes to about 4 dollars a month is really not that bad considering the nice features you get. My friends and I have so much fun on Live that I don't regret it at all. We've tried to play on PSN and it's so inconvenient after being spoiled on XBL. I'd pay Sony the same fee for a small variety of decent communication options between friends.
If anyone's going to complain about paying for online games it should be MMOs where it's up to $15 a month. I personally don't have a problem with it and millions of other people don't either. Sorry to get off track here but my point is I can't see why someone would bash XBL before pay-to-play MMOs.
Back on topic. I figured it would happen someday but I didn't think it would be until at least next-gen consoles were revealed.
Well if it makes you feel better I don't particularly enjoy paying every month for MMO's either. I understand why it's necessary for MMO's to not charge just a one time rate though because they have to come up with new content. I don't understand why I should pay for a game that has one of it's major features being multiplayer and then have to pay microsoft for the privilege of actually using that feature. The amount of work microsoft puts into XBL is very minimal compared to that going into even just patches in an MMO. Having a better multiplayer setup should be a selling point for the xbox/360 not something we should have to pay for as that actually makes having a crappier multiplayer setup a selling point for their competitors. I would probably have a less aggressive tone about the issue if I didn't see it as microsoft being greedy and dumb at the same time.
As for the original topic...I too think it's a bit premature.
