Lord of the Rings was launched in April 2007. The awesome thing is that it's based off the books and not the movies, so that opened up so much content. I'm personally disappointed with their predictable story progression, but it hasn't been bad so far. They recently switched to a F2P payment model too, meaning you get some features for free and you can pay to have more, all around a good time for everyone involved. My account was originally a lifetime membership, but with the change to F2P, I'm basically what they call a VIP member and they give me points to spend on extra stuff every month. Yes, I've never actually paid to play this game beyond the initial game purchase and the expansions.
We started off in the Eriador region of Middle-Earth, meaning we got Bree, the Shire, Falathlorn, the Lone-Lands, Trollshaws, Rivendell, and that sort of jazz. Mines of Moria released...Moria! And then we eventually got Lothlorien too, and then Mirkwood with the Siege of Mirkwood expansion. Isengard & Dunland came with the Rise of Isengard, and Rohan is coming next, with, you guessed it, the Rohan area being released. It's a pretty sweet game. The graphics are slightly aged, but you have support for DirectX 11 and there is a texture pack out that'll make the game even prettier, but in no way comparable to TERA or Final Fantasy XIV Online.
You can go to lotro.com and register a F2P account and try the game out, if you like it, pay for more or become a monthly VIP subscriber, right now you can get a year for $99, so that is one deal if the game catches your eye.
If there are any FAKKU members that currently play the game or plan to, post here!
