Sounds a bit better now that BioWare has explained it a bit more.

Yeas it does but, it's still pointless to add in anykind of multiplayer to the third game of an RPG series
How is it pointless? If anything, this probably increases the game's replay value considerably, now that you can take on missions with your friends. Also, what does being the third game in a series have to do with anything? Only reason why I think ME3 got co-op is because the gameplay evolved over the course of the series, with the co-op being a part of said evolution. The games gradually got more action-oriented and the gameplay streamlined to the point that co-op multiplayer became a valid addition to the third game. It's not like they could've added co-op at any time in the series but simply decided not to. Things just kind of lead up to it, is all.
I still think EA forced this and Bioware is trying to make it good so the third game is crap. Maybe pointless was the wrong word unnecesary is a better word. My point is an RPG or an action RPG doesn't need multiplayer even if it's basic co-op.
I fear what kind of blacklash for RPG's this multiplayer function will bring.
This isn't the first time that an RPG incorporated a co-op mode. Hell, a lot of older RPGs allowed you to play through with friends. Two more recent examples of RPGs with great co-op are Borderlands and Dead Island. There are even people that may argue that the games are great
because of the co-op. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, this is nothing new. Unexpected, maybe. But just because a game is an RPG that doesn't mean it has to be single player only. And why does it have to be EA who made it so that the third game would have co-op? Did you ever stop to think that maybe the developers just wanted to make the game even better by adding some extra replay value so that players won't drop it and move on to the next game as soon as they finish their first or second playthrough?
