Mugen Souls is fantastic (most of the time)!
Favorite character is Soul.

How is the game? I've heard mixed things so far. I have a copy sitting here but I haven't started it yet.
The humor can be a bit crude, but overall it's a really funny satire of videogames and anime in general. There's an actual plot there that slowly builds until it comes out towards the latter chapters (sections of the game) and it's done fairly well so far as I've seen. Voice acting is very good but like most JRPGs it's not in every skit (which are all a good time, and half of them are on your ship so don't forget to go back once an a while and see them all). This is the first game in a long time to have a cast of characters I really like. Each one is unique and funny in their own way.
Combat is so fun I can't help myself but grind in the special section of the ship (you'll see it eventually), and the customization is fantastic, quite literally overwhelming at times with what you can get, what you level up, what you wear, so forth. It's mostly fair, though you do have to play it smart and utilize the abundance of items you'll get from orb chests in the worlds and strategize between a character's strengths.
The only complaint I have is that the game's air-ship battles are all fucking ridiculously difficult because of how atrificially difficult they are. The enemy quotes (which you need to see what action to take next) are almost ALWAYS misleading and have up to 4 different outcomes! FUCK airship battles (though they give a ton of XP)!
Also, as with most compile heart games, you'll need to do stupid arbitrary bullshit to advance the plot. At one point I NEEDED to kill 1090 enemies to move a continent. Since the game keeps track of your kills on the worlds and in the special grind section it wasn't a total fuck-up, but it still meant I had to go through needless bullshit to continue. Fucking damn it, Compile Heart! Stop doing this to me! I got rid of Agarest War 2 because of this shit!!
...No worries, though, it never gets that bad.
That's about it. Very much a love-hate relationship if only because of the airship battles and Compile Heart being Compile Heart (though, again, it never gets as bad as AW2: "go kill 50 -blank- enemies, kill 24 -blank- enemies, and return with -blank- which has NOTHING to do with the plot").
I'm still playing it and enjoying it so there's my endorsement. Hope you have fun!
