My Xbox Controls The Internet?

Alright so my xbox and everything else in the house runs on wifi.
So when i turn on my xbox it takes a secound to connect to the said wifi.
But when it does EVERYTHING in the house stops working for about 30 secs.
Its kinda weird cause when the xbox is shut off the internet goes out for about a minute or two then comes right back on.
Are xbox's known to hog wifi?
Seems alittle over board for a single xbox to stop the internet connect temporarily just so it can connect.
Maybe its just me over thinking it.
But i just thought i would share this with everyone seeing if anyone has had the same problem. :o
