Exactly. Honestly though, canceling accounts and boycotting Blizzard seems a little extreme for an announcement that had no effect on the games at all and is completely up to you if you use any of it's features... even those it does provide in-game.
It wasn't about the impact on the games, it was Blizzard having the
audacity to break their privacy agreements without the consent of the players. It's one thing for Real ID to be totally optional in-game, but making it mandatory on the forums is another matter entirely. Tech Support will often refer you to the forums if you contact them in-game, so for many people the forums are totally unavoidable.
Regardless, I didn't cancel my account, I just stopped playing for a few days and kept my ear to the ground (I did cancel my Cataclysm pre-order though, but I can always just make it again), and now that Blizzard's proven that they really do listen to their players, I'm glad I didn't bail out as fast as some of the other guys did. Now that I've been exposed to EVE and Aion though, I don't think I'll ever be completely addicted again.
Incidentally, EVE is a confusing mess at first appearance and I'm disappointed that the controls aren't more flight simulator-ish (I was hoping it'd be something like TIE Fighter Online, and it's really
really not). On the other hand, I'm
really impressed by some of the stories I've heard that have come out of this game, like
the heist and that whole business with Goonswarm and Band of Brothers. So yeah, not a very good first impression but I'm not going to ditch it just because of that.
