Hmm I've noticed that there are mostly just threads about newer games... but lets go back... not too far... to games that YOU liked and are not discussed of as much as you'd hope...
I'll start with...
Golden Sun...
One of the most epic-est of epic RPG's I ever did play...
The story is awesome... the graphics are... Sprites but they're so awesome it doesn't matter... Anyone who's played it can tell you how awesome it was when you first summoned Judgement, Eclipse, or the ever so awesome Iris, I was like... "HOLY FFFFUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKK!!!!!"
and not to mention it had AWESOME music...
My 2 fave of faves...
Spoiler:
Fusion Dragon FUCK YEAH!!!
And Saturos Battle theme... It just sounds like every battle theme should...
And let me be the (possibly not) first to get sand in my vagina about the "new" graphics... I dont like fukken shitty 3d... and the story better more than make up for it... fukken dumbasses fukking shit up... making something 3d looking doesnt automatically make it better... GAH!!! FUCK!!!
If you played the original 2 you'll get what I mean right away...
Spoiler:
....I'll still buy it... <__<...
Im done with my rant... now if you'll excuse me...
*goes back to still trying to get all charas to lvl 99 and best weapons...*
I'll post again when I think of any other game that need an honorable mention...
Funny that this topic is here right now, since I was in the middle of Playing Zak McKracken!
The follow up point-and-click to Maniac Mansion, I got this back when it first came out. Having a C64 used to be pretty bad-ass thanks to stuff like this. Speaking of point and click, who can forget Monkey Island? The original is still the best!
Either you never visit 4chan, or you're a frequent visitor and just felt like bringing Battletoads up. o_o
Anyways, my vote goes for Shadow Madness for the PS1. Shadow Hearts for the PS2 gets so much credit for being such a dark and morbid RPG, but it's morbidness could never even come close to Shadow Madness.
Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere for the PS1, its not really that well known but it is the sequel to ace combat 5 the unsung war. the japanese version has 2 discs, different endings and anime cutscenes in between stages. i played it again recently and it has the best story among the other games in the series. its kinda like a dating game to depending on which side you choose or defect too you always seem to have a girl for a wingman.
Spoiler:
(upeo= rena and fiona, neucom= fiona and cynthia, ouroboros = rena and cynthia etc. etc.)
its all in japanese so i can't really understand much (had to find the scripts of the game to find out whats going on and try to understand what the fuck fiona is babbling about), heard from gamefaqs that some people are trying to sub it or translate it, also namco is thinking of remaking the game so here's to hoping.
I forgot how long ago it was that I've played this game, but I can still remember it was good...
It had a SHITLOAD of moves for every character... and the battle system was (at the time) unique... at least to me...
FUCK!!! I think I either lost it, or it got stolen I cant remember... all I remember is that the "100 battle hall" was a long bitch of a time... those mole things blinding me and shit... -__-...
anyway here's a vid showing the main charas moves...
Nightshade for the NES is a great game: fun, entertaining, hilarious, but I've never even met anyone else who has heard of it(It's also where my avatar is from).
Spoiler:
Basically, you play as some guy who decides to dress up in a trenchcoat and sunglasses and reclaim your city from the clutches of criminals. Only problem is that the villains don't take you seriously and no one knows who you are. Well, and the fact that Nightshade is more than a bit insane.
Ridiculous deathtraps, bizarre puzzles, crazy villains, obnoxious civilians, satiric jokes, Nightshade's general stupidity/insanity. It's somewhat similar to Star Control II in that respect.
