The whole "not able to fight back thing" is definitely not scary in itself. It's a valid design choice, but making it the sole source of attempted horror... no, it just doesn't work.
This. Amnesia was totally wasted on me because of that. Game felt more like a series of puzzles and high-stakes hide & seek than anything really terrifying. Granted, the atmosphere was actually quite well done and rather creepy.
