I could not find a topic about this game anywhere thus far on here. Splatoon is a a tactical based innovative shooter that revolves around using ink to takeout, transverse, and acquire as much turf against others in online and offline game modes. Your avatar is either a fourteen year old boy or girl creature known as an "Inkling" (a young squid). There are four different weapon types and more unlocked through game progression.
You have main weapons, sub weapons, and special weapons all with pros and cons. On the "Open Stress Test" live event that ended yesterday the only game modes available was tutorial and turf war. Tutorial while being quite obvious gave players the chance too hone skills if only with one of the guns called splattershot jr. Once completed players could select three additional weapons called splattershot, chargeshot, and a giant paint roller.
While awaiting people to fill up the lobby players are treated to a mini game called "Squid Jump". A simple yet slightly addictive platformer reminiscent of "Ice Climbers". Once lobby is filled the game will begin. Playing with the game tablet (you can use a pro controller) you can utilize the gyro tech too aim on both axis while using the screen at the same time to see the condition of the turf almost via "UVA". May seem gimmicky but it works however if that not your speed you can always disable the gyroscopic aiming at the options menu.
Overall, this game may seem kiddie but to me it is a simple yet complex take on the shooter genre that is filled to the brim with brown and grey shooters. So much new features after launch day on 5/29 will be added later along with amiibos and pre-purchase exclusives. Best Buy will have a bundled version available at launch as well. Well thats about it more info on this game can be found on the Splatoon website or Nintendo's youtube channel.
