I am addicted to FIFA 09 on the pc; used to be a PES man, but it's been surpassed. I would get it on the 360, but I've been waiting for the new one.

Pro Evo still has better controls and responsiveness but FIFA beats it in every other way. The sports games I've played the most are FIFA (the recent ones) because my friend keeps buying them on the 360 and he's the sort of person that only plays sports games and the odd Xbox FPS, and also various Tiger Woods games. I find the latter really relaxing and it's also good to play with lots of people while having a drink; if you try to booze while playing most other games, sports or otherwise, you're too busy playing to drink. 'Cause of Tiger Woods turn-based nature, it works out pretty well.

Tony Hawk's games are awesome. Well, only THUG, THUG2 and THAW are (for me). They've been fucking up the games BAD since Project 8.

I currently have Madden 07 on my computer and NBA 2k9 for PS3. I'm planning to get Madden 10 on PS3 once it comes out as well.
Personally, I really like superstar and franchise/association mode. I play against my friends, but I haven't been all that big on online play. I also like to try to play realistically with regard to the sport, whereas the best way to win is usually to find an exploit the plays that the AI sucks at defending, since even against a human, you can only play 1 out of the 5 or 11 guys(NBA or NFL) on the field at a time.

In basketball, online, you can actually play 5v5 with every player being a human. With NHL, you can play 6v6. Lol. Well, I know EA allows that. I don't know about 2K.
Football is a little more difficult with so many positions and all the different packages and looks a team has... So... yeah.
