Suggestions? Good RTS game

Im looking for a good RTS. I have recently been replaying old ones and im looking for somthing new for me but i cant seem any good ones on steam that i like for a decent price. I Have a LOT of RTS games so im just guna list them to get rid of any comfution. Rise of nations, age of empires -all, close to all the total war serice (don't have Napoleon is it good??) hearts of Iron 3, starcraft, Company of heroes (have the first expansion but not second) Empire at war, I think thats it well can you suggest a good game for me?

If your an Ensemble Studios fan, like me (i also have all Age of Empires games :3), you will like Halo Wars. I'm afraid its only for Xbox 360 but an amazing RTS none the less.

You could look into games like Homeworld or Sins of a Solar Empire. No mention of any of the C&C series?

Dang! i also forget one of the best ones out there! This made me think realy hard but i HIGHLY RECOMMEND you try AOM by Ensemble. An amazing RTS which you can find in stores for a low price.

Have you tryed sins of a solar empire?? i hear a lot of good reviews but im still kinda reluctent

I had fun with it. Expect really really really long games though. Also if you are not careful, it is really easy to get screwed over by computers. The only down side it had for me was that there was no actual campaign to the game. No story = not as fun imo

Unlike Homeworld that had an epic arc.
OP if you get Homeworld 2 get the mod Homeworld 2 Complex for more skirmish action.

If have time give the Civilisations a try lots of fun, from the releases Civ 4 series is probably the best of the lot but if you want a challenge Civ 3 offers a very aggressive AI even on easy.

This. The C&C games are also pretty decent, mainly Tiberian Sun + Red Alert 2 with expansions. You can download Tiberian Sun and a few others (Red Alert 1, Renegade I think) for free from the official website.

you could try Warhammer 40k, it's pretty fun, and armies can get pretty fricken huge.

Homeworlds 1 & 2
Best space strategy and story. Especially first one. It's almost compulsory to play, it's that good. Second is good too, but it's pretty much rehash (in game mechanics) from first one, with better graphics and different story.

C&C series: (Red Alert 2, Tiberian Sun etc... Tiberian Wars and RA3 were not bad imo, at least much better than Generals. Stay clear of that, unless you like playing overpowered guys [USA fuck yeah?]).

Supreme Commander: Huge Armies. Losses that go into hundreds. Massive Experimental Weapons. Strategies are actually required, rather than blind rushes. Nukes that live up to their name. Need I say more?

Warhammer 40.000 Dawn of War: Very solid, especially the first three games (Dawn of War, Winter Assault, Dark Crusade), especially if you like Warhammer setting. Great way of portraying infantry combat, with morale, cover, special weapons and all the bell and whistles.

They're all worthy of your attention.

Personally, one thing I will add would be Dark Reign 2. Pretty fun game. Not revolutionary, but I like how they portrayed differences between each side. And the "World will end"-esque plot.

There is also a series of Earth 21XX games (Earth 2140, but mainly 2150 and 2160), altough they would be pretty hard to get in West, being distributed mainly in Poland, Germany and Russia. It;s pretty awesome, since it allows you to design your own units (at least in 2150 and 2160), and all factions have pretty unique techs and game play style.

Shame it never saw wider releases. That game was golden, in terms of re-playability and fun you got from base-building, army design and combat. And resource gathering to escape from dying Earth.

Such a good game, but I only had it on the PS1 for a long time, and it was just impossible with a controller. There was a level where you had to take a commando through an entire base dodging dogs, flame towers and Tesla coils which made me rage-quit, and don't get me started on skirmish. They just rushed you every time. :P

The only thing that irks me about this game is the way too fast scrolling in the PC version... you learn to deal with it, but still.

Warlords: Battlecry 2, the only RTS game I've played and enjoyed. It's a mix of RPG and RTS in that you create a hero out of I think 11 different races and 10 different classes and as you level up you get new abilities and spells to use to help conquer your enemies as well as lower the cost of building new units. You can also find new equipment either by killing enemy heroes or by completing quests that increase your skills and damage or reduce damage. It's especially a great game for RTS beginners (like me) because you can alter the game speed or even pause it and still issue orders. Also if you make/download a good training map you can level up your hero easily and find good equipment to help make the campaign easier (your hero's level and equipment carry over from the campaign to skirmishes and vice versa). Also in order to help keep the campaign interesting the developers made it so that you start in a different part of the world map depending on what race your hero is.

I've also heard the third game is good but I haven't had a chance to try it.

Played Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War for the first time yesterday.

A pretty good game, though I get the feeling it plays pretty much similar to Warcraft 3. Not that that's a bad thing.

Well, Warhammer 40.000 is pretty much Warhammer Fantasy in space, with few adjustments. And Chaos being somehow more evil, at least for me.

Another good RTS game, especially if you like WWII is Codename Panzers: Phase One.

It has all that a good WWII RTS should have. Varied infantry (rifleman, machine gun troopers, "light" machine gun back ups, flamethrower infantry, anti-tank rifleman, mortar companies etc.), tank combat (flanking, armors thinner at central places, limited main gun ammo, even ability of tank to overheat forcing the crew to abandon it), artillery and air support that you can call down to wreck things and you work mostly with limited number of troops (no magical barracks).

It's not anything revolutionary anymore, but if you like WWII games, or games that give you a lot of tactical options, this one's for you.

Another game like this would be Company of Heroes. I only played the demo tough, so I don't really now how good it is.

It did seem like a WWII era Dawn of War tough, with excellent infantry cover (some being destroyable, some impervious to fire etc.), similar multum of tactical options plus some new ones (like pinning enemy with machine gun or artillery fire in their cover, flanking them with rifleman and throwing a few grenades in the mix). And much better graphics.

And unlike Codename, you don't have to work with limited troops. You get barracks, defense structures and so on. Fun fact: Barracks are actually build by your engineers within marked civilian structures, rather than actually build a building.

thanks for your suggestions i ended up getting sins of a solar empire but its still good to know more about RTS games.

I found that sins is a Huge time suck.
