The engine is still pretty much the same... nothing was added except the changed dodge and that only takes a second to get used to. The difference is everything they took out. This wasn't the case for 64 to melee as they kept everything from 64 and just added a whole lot of new stuff to the engine, it's a completely different sort of change. It just takes a little while to get used to not using tactics you're used to using. Again this only applies for advanced players and tactics. If you were just a casual player then you probably won't notice any difference and you should get used to it easily.
Not necessarily. I think the changes with the air dodge and sweetspoting are minor changes. The actual engine, however, has been completely rebuilt. If you used advanced techs habitually, then you might need some adjustment, but I haven't seen videos of people attempting to wavedash lately. So, those habits might be easily broken. Like I said before, prior experience with Smash64 probably helps with the jump from Melee to Brawl.
@ SupaPenguin: Yeah, it's been like that for awhile. I only got mine by having family members look for them and reimbursing them for buying it for me.
