I couldn't find a thread on this one, so thought I'd start it myself...
Darkness II is the sequel to Starbreeze's frankly essential The Darkness, a game about a mafia hitman killing people with elongated tentacle monsters that sprout out of his back. Based on the cult hit comic book of the same name by Top Cow, it's a first-person action game with a grimdark story and unimaginably gory violence and gunplay, which makes for, as far as I'm concerned, a rollicking good time.
The sequel is developed by Bioshock 2 and Homefront co-developers Digital Extremes, but don't let that put you off. With the intentions to be more faithful to the source material, The Darkness II is a painfully well-designed shooter, with a comic book aesthetic that looks a lot like a next-gen XIII (a good thing), and a horror-noir-ish plot that is borderline ridiculous (also a good thing). It's core gameplay focus is on "quad wielding" - with two guns, and two horribly demented tentacle rape monster heads, at your disposal at all times. And also you can recruit little demon imps who are really adorable. Sure, they're savage bloodthirsty monsters, but you can't hate them for having a passion.
There's a demo available for everysystemthat matters, so nothing is stopping you from giving this one a look!
Frankly, I've laid down my pre-order and I can't wait until it releases is but a few day's time. What do you guys think? :D
Had a lot of fun with the demo and even played through it a few times. Heck, I was even considering buying the first game for a while. But as it stands, however, my budget just can't handle me buying a third game, along with Mass Effect 3 and RE: Operation Raccoon City. I'll most likely pick it up after it's price drops and my wallet fattens up a bit though.
