Demon's Souls is not THAT hard, it's pretty easy actually, as long as you're careful.
As for Flamelurker......i just make him stuck in a corner if i'm using melee. With ranged/magic he's just a pushover.
Yeah, but 5-2 PBWT on your first playthrough is hard as shit. Especially if that meat cleaver bitch attacks you, or Selas Vinland.

If you didn't bring enough antidotes along doesn't necessarily means it's hard, although you should worry more about huge club wielding things walking in teams than some random meat cleaver.

Pure black world tendency on anything in Demon's Souls is tough. Harder enemies, special bosses, and so on. Add that to a first playthrough character that may have an improper build...

Sounds like you never had to fight either of them. The club giants were tough (especially the extra black phantom ones) but they were surmountable. A poorly built first playthrough character against the meat cleaver black phantom? Dead, no questions asked.
