Wow. This game was really good. There were a lot of little additions to the story made the plot as a whole more cohesive and great. The plot of the game follows the events of Resident Evil 0, 1, & 3, as well as little intertwining side stories that tie up some lose ends and plot holes that may have emerged from the games themselves.
Graphics-wise, for a Wii game, this was a masterpiece for the eyes. The proverbial Cat's Pajamas. Zombies shambled and looked like they did in the GameCube RE remake. The environments were also updated beautifully using the designs from the RE remake and Outbreak games.
The Music was mostly forgettable and ambient, but some of the more haunting songs left a resonating impression on me. My favorite background songs came from the stages Nightmare, Death's Door, and Mansion Incident 2. I also enjoyed the Stage Results Screen music.
The voice acting was amusing at times, and competent as a whole. Wesker's voice was complete and utter gold, and having Patricia Ja Lee (Cassie Chan from Power Rangers In Space) voice Jill was a touch even I cannot deny was brilliant. To the point where it makes me lament what they've done to her in RE5.
Call me old school, but I really did like the designs of the characters clothing and hair from the old games, such as the STARS Uniforms, Jill's casual clothes, and the UBCS fatigues. HUNK is as awesome as ever. Chris has his original haircut, which I enjoyed. He also wasn't musclebound like in RE5, which I also enjoyed. It's a shame that Leon and Claire didn't make playable appearances in this one, since they are everyone's favorite characters. As for main antagonist Sergei, he felt just a bit forced at times, but he was a pretty cool character to add to the canon, even if just for this game.
In Gameplay, headshots were hard to pull off, but then again, they're supposed to be when you're being crowded by zombies, mutant animals, and plants. Zombies needed to be shot right in the forehead, not the general head itself; which with a handgun and an anemic, wobbly hand was hard to do. I'd nail a zombie in the nose and he'd tilt his head back, making headshots even tougher. And then he'd be on me and I'd be forced to whip out the knife to get the fucker off me. It was difficult, but never frustrating; and always exciting.
Now for the cons. It mainly has to do with character presence. I wish Billy Coen and Rebecca Chambers had more appearances after their story ended, y'know? Neither appeared after the Mansion Incident resolved itself. Same goes for Carlos Oliveira, who we also never hear from again following his arc.
Some characters never made a physical appearance at all, despite being important characters in the original games. Omitted from the plot were Nicholai Ginovaef, Mikhail Viktor, Barry Burton, Joseph Frost, Kevin Dooley, Enrico Marini (Despite being mentioned passively by Richard Aiken during one stage), and Brad Vickers. All these characters were just ignored and demoted to character profiles that you can read about them, much to my lament.
And no matter what game he appears in, Richard Aiken always gets a raw-ass deal, either dying from a bite wound, poison, being swallowed whole by a giant shark or snake, or just fucking dying off-screen.
