The thing is, EA cannot let Titanfall overshine and beat the flagship called Battlefield. Hence, it cannot and will not be better than Battlefield.
I like your cynicism, but I think it's misguided. On a whim, I decided to check out EA's
2013 annual report. The place of interest is the risks section:

Our business is intensely competitive and “hit” driven. If we do not deliver “hit” products and services, or if consumers prefer our competitors’ products or services over our own, our operating results could suffer.
There, straight from the asshole's mouth. It's less about cannibalization and more about ntr-ing CoD. It's not a coincidence that titanfall is just cowadoody with robots and jetpacks, especially since the devs are former Infinity Ward employees. Blame dev incompetence in the realm of programming.

EA as a publisher still holds the wallet. Game looks good now, but I'm paranoid and I think there will be a mess in the future with Titanfall. Prolly gets DLC's up the arse in forms of Extra titans.
Of course EA will try to turn it into a money vacuum. Are serial rapists on the prowl for more victims? Is kawaii uguu responsible for making a weab's heart go dokidoki? Does a bear shit wherever the fuck it wants and slurps honey the way EA chugs the souls of successful developers? The answer to all questions is "all of the above." Why? Because EA.
