God I love Umineko but it's so hard for me to play it because everytime I take a little break that break turns into months of me not touching the game.

Umm, how do I install the patch? I assumed that after installing the normal game I was supposed to copy the patch files to the root folder, and replace the files when it asked to. It screwed up the game. THEN instead I tried to open the onscripter and said the game couldn't be found.

Do I only copy the onscripter to the root folder and do things that way or what? Same goes for Higurashi. Thanks in advance.

As for Higurashi, just download the Demo, it's all of the translated route (currently the only one) in Ps2 graphics, and it requires no install.

I would assume you're doing something wrong, since the patch works as it should =X

Knowing me I probly am. But usually, instead of copying the whole patch folder to the games root folder, I have to put each file in the patch folder in the root folder, then replace things it says to replace, but it isn't the case here :/

Maybe you should try it again. Basically, install the game. Download Translation Patch. After you do that, don't touch anything. Just put the translation folder "English" along with the game's main file. You don't have to replace anything. You can start the game in English through the "English" folder.

If that doesn't work, then I don't know.

Well, I already had the game before this thread started and I have to say that Umineko is way better than Higurashi in my opinion.

Im pretty sure Im doing everything correctly. I've followed tutorials, I used the link Klown gave me, nothing is helping at all. Maybe the patch I have is missing a file? Could someone name all the files needed in the patch folder?

Instead of using the one KLoWn has up, how about trying the patch at the Translators homesite?

OK, there seems to be some slight confusion on how to do this, so I'll write up how I did it, as step-by-step as I can.

Just so you know, I run vista, so this may or may not work for XP (I'd imagine it would though).

1. First, mount the cd image you got, using daemon tools or whatever else. I ignore the installation prompt. Instead:

2. Copy all the contents of the disc to desktop (or anywhere, really) in to a folder called Umineko.

3. From there, you should have a multitude of other folders and files inside that. BGM, DirectX, fullsrc, ME, movie, screenshot, SE, sys_se, and then the individual files. Normal installation rules state that you create a new folder inside here called "english," and just paste the contents from the translation patch inside that. I find running the onscripter from inside this folder does not work like it should.

Here's the workaround I use to great effect.

4. Open the fullsrc folder.

5. Create the 'english' folder here, and paste the patch contents inside. Now go back to the fullsrc folder.

6. Copy the following music/sound effect folders into your fullsrc folder:

BGM, ME, Movie, SE, sys_se

7. Now try running the onscripter file inside the new english folder.


I don't have to launch it in admin or XP compatibility mode. If you've done it right, wait a few seconds and you should here a water drop with 07th Expansion + the witch-hunt's logo. Then, the main menu will appear with the sound of seagulls and water splashing against the shore.

It would please me greatly to know if this helped anyone!
