Yep, that's the joke. At least that's how I was when I got Fate. Hooked, unsocial, the whole 9 yards.
I'm unsocial all the time so no difference to me. XD But I did cut myself off from all of the other stuff I do on the web, which is saying a lot in my case. I still need to get to Fate one of these days... (watched the anime and movies, read a bit of the manga)
Not many VNs that stray on this path, I found it very enjoyable because of the choices they made. It's not some simple lovey-dovey typical VN where there's sex around every corner like 'Pick me, Honey!', or 'Harem Party'. It isn't like some VNs where there's virtually zero danger factor or true conflict like 'Shuffle!', or 'Tottemo Pheromone'.
It really says something when the sex scenes in this story were merely a bonus, while it was the backbone of most of the others I've played. They could have been removed entirely and I'd still have enjoyed this immensely. But yes, it is most definitely a nice shift from the plots of your generic H-game (no offense to them since I like me some harems/slice of life/moe-overload every now and then).
It has its shining moments where happiness abounds, but there's also many moments where it's dark and gripping. There's always danger in this VN. That's what makes it so appealing to read.
Exactly this. Going through the novel, I was actually looking forward to what was coming next, I wanted to know how everything would turn out. Compared to just reading through to get to the sex...
I'd recommend Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo, and G-Senjou No Maou if you haven't read them yet. G-Senjou is pretty close to this thematically, Sharin no Kuni not as close, but still thematically similar.
Thank you for the recommendations, I'll definitely give them a look when I can. Until then, I'll download them to have when the time comes.
Can't blame you. I did hers last and felt the same way. There's always 1 thing I hate about VNs, it's that not everyone gets to be happy. This is a primary shining example of such a scenario. All the girls have issues, Kouhei can only save one of them.
In other games, they'll still live at the very least... This one makes it clear the other girls
will die without you there, and all of them bring it about with their own hands, which just makes it worse.
Not going to lie, her whole route got me to believe in magic in this game. Obviously it takes place in real life, and real time, but that was her influence on me, she made me feel like the magic really did exist. [size=9]You know, without the sex.[/h]
Know how you feel, bro. *wipes tears away* I knew deep, deep down that it all wasn't true but I was still excited over them finding the fairy's home and I earnestly hoped they would find it together.
Seriously, we're clicking on the same wave-length here mate. That's both creepy and touching. Mizuki's problem as a
Nihilist, made her want to live 150% throughout the game,
I really didn't like that, and at times I wished she thought about her actions, she's a smart girl after-all. I did like how Kouhei's parents were so cool with it all though at the end. Family really does stick together.
That's not a bad thing. ;D It's good to find people who share the same views as you. :3
About Mizuki
I'm sorry, but I really couldn't get on the same page as her with the whole "I can't see the future and am afraid to go to sleep because I might not wake up". Maybe because I'm a guy who lives in the present and doesn't think too much over the future, but it just wasn't something I could grasp.
Her dilemma just wasn't as identifiable as Aeka and Nekoko-chan's. Not to diss Mizuki, I found her shirking her council duties and blackmailing hilarious.
In the end, ALL of the girls had really great endings. If you didn't shed a tear for each ending you've got to be one really cold bastard.
Agreed (again). There is nothing wrong with sobbing like a baby over this eroge. I teared up at Mizuki's, had to sweep a few away for Aeka's, and needed a box of tissues for Nekoko-chan's.
