2015 Fakku Summer Writing Contest - The Winners.

The second Summer Writing Contest has finally come to an end after the judges slowly trudged through the muddy water that is the laziness (which we happily indulged, ironically).

It was a sweet piece that we all enjoyed, and were able to relate with to an extent. We all know that you had been trying for some time to win a contest, so, really, I am happy for you. This brought forth the feeling of nostalgia that we basked in, a familiar feeling of childhood adventure most apparently cherish. Quite a unique approach which I'd commend you for. As for the rest, I thank you all for entering my contest this year. I hope fond valuable experiences were gained, and as they all say; experience is your greatest teacher. I hope you all gained the critiques you deserved as well. Feel free to visit the Fakku Writer's Lounge if you feel like discussing any literary topics with the fellow writers.

I'd also like give special thanks to the other two judges for helping to decide the winners for the contest: xninebreaker and Waar. If you wish for us judges to provide comments, critiques, opinions and whatnot about your entry, please post and let us know in this thread.

The last few years the Summer Writing Contest was not held, but that does not mean that it may not take place next year. Let us hope I am able to pull it off again. I'm sure that there are more events to come this year, so make sure you stick around this forum.

So once again, thank you, everyone. May the rest of this year contain more fun events for all of us in this forum.

I'm very excited and honored to be receiving an award for this contest. I was a bit worried that my entry was too mild and tame compared to what I usually do, but you know sometimes it's nice to write something simple and believable, and hopefully write it well. I'd love the judges to post whatever notes and thoughts that they had in my entry thread, and anyone else who feels so inclined.

I very much enjoyed a lot of the other entries in this contest as well, but reserved any serious comments or critique out of respect for the contest's rules. If you would like me to go more in-depth with my analysis of your entry, feel free to let me know as well and I'll tell you how I feel it could be improved. I didn't go overboard on the analysis of entries because it's nice to not have to worry about that as a fellow entrant.

Obligatory congratulations goes to d as my winning compatriot. Well done.

Congratulations to Xenon for a pretty close first place! It’s been a long time coming, Xenon, and I’m glad that you’ve won. I want to know that we thought really hard about this and even with the extra bit of harshness we judged with, we all felt like your piece stood at the very top. Be proud Xenon, you earned it.

I also want to congratulate d for taking second place. I’ll be stopping by your thread, but I want to let you know here that you were pushing for first place with your entry. It’s a strong piece with a refreshing and nostalgic taste of Summer. I’m glad you entered and I hope you keep on entering for the contests to come.

Sound of Destiny and kyci, congratulations on the honorable mentions! I’m glad to see you again Sound, and furthermore, I’m glad to see you challenging the top spots! And kyci, welcome to the writing forums, it’s great to see a new writer push out such strong material. I’ll be stopping by your threads soon, but I hope that both of you continue to be a part of the contests and community.

I enjoyed reading all of the entries this contest, and I was glad that I got the chance to judge and get down to really look at these works. While slow at first, the contest really began to pick up towards the end and it was quite the sight to see. I’m glad to see plenty of old faces enter, as well as some new ones or those that decided to stick around from last contest. I welcome any newcomers and I hope you all decide to stick around.

As this contest is now over, I will be posting some commentary on all the entries within a week if desired. I hope to see everyone next contest, or better yet, I hope to see some non-contest content!

And please, do ask if you want comments on your work. Ask Xenon as well; his proofreading skills are top notch.

This makes this the second contest in which both Xenon and I have entered and he won first place. I'm coming for you . . . if you know what I mean.


On a more serious note, I'm honored you judges would choose me as the runner-up, and thanks for taking the time to make this contest even possible. If you have any remarks about my entry, I would love to hear them. You too Xenon. I'll be returning the favor, or I'll end up making you feel bad about yourself if you don't do anything. Also, if anyone else is reading this and had something to say about my entry but felt they couldn't due to the nature of the contest, I would like to hear those well. I'd value your comments just as much as the judges. And do ask me if anyone would like something more in-depth than all the little hey-I-read-your-thing comments I left in all the topics. I'd be glad to provide, but just a warning in advance, don't blame me if I don't actually have anything helpful to say.



You can count on me if you so chose to have something out by the end of this month that I've been working on for some time. Unless something goes horribly wrong.

That was a really long, nerve-racking wait and it looks like I was right to be anxious. Congrats to the winners. You both did a great job.

I would definitely appreciate some critique as well. I was trying a different style so comments would be nice.

Congratulations to Xenon and d as well as to Sound and kyci! Glad to see Sound get honorable mention since the first contest we both joined on this forum was last year's Winter Writing Contest. I hope to see more in-depth comments from both the judges and my fellow contestants about my work. See you all on the next contest!

Oh yeah, I never said it, but I guess I could always use some more room to improve. I encourage anyone and everyone to bash and praise my submission to their heart's content! I want it all! Good and bad!

This was my first time entering the contest and it turned out to be surprisingly fun. If there are ever any more I'll definitely consider entering. Don't need to worry about not getting an honourable mention or winning. I see events like these as an excuse to write knowing that I can badger others to read what I wrote.

By far, the thing I like most about these contests is that I'm pretty much guaranteed to get a few people to read my entry.
