Fallout: The Long Haul (RP)

Across the Upstate New York wasteland a radio broadcast has been heard twice daily, once at midnight, once at noon, mentioning work for Long Haul Caravans. The job is mapping a safe caravan route from New York to the Tampa ruins, paying 75 caps per diem and 5,000 caps bonus upon returning to Long Haul's headquarters.

Along the eastern coast of the United States in 2273.

Personal History:
Born in the relatively stable area of Central New Jersey and raised in an orchard, Daniel had a relatively sheltered life. At age 17 he left his home and headed North and started a life scavenging the New York wasteland, eventually meeting a roving treader named Susan. Eventually they became closer and started a family. At the beginning of the RP Daniel has a 4 year old daughter named Rebecca and his family is living in a settlement created for Long Haul Caravans employees.

Vic was born in a small settlement. He’s been restless ever since he was small. He found life in the settlement very boring and ran away when he was old enough to fire a gun; he was 6. He walked into a rabid dog 2 hours out and got bit in the leg. A fellow settlement member found him trying to crawl back later that day. That night his father taught him a lesson that has stuck with him ever since. If you say you’re going to do something, follow through. His actual words were, “Don’t be such a goddamned pussy. I’d knock the shit out of you if you weren’t injured. Don’t make me make you wish you didn’t crawl back!” That and always keep a sharp razor on you were the two most important pieces of advice he ever got from his parents. He ran away again at age 8 (this desire to run away has absolutely nothing to do with his abusive dad).

On the fifth day out, somebody shot at him. The bullet only grazed him, taking off part of his ear. He played dead until he realized the guy who shot him intended on robbing him. Then he pulled out his razor, stabbed him in the knee and put as much distance between him and the bandit until he dropped from exhaustion.

He wandered the wastes like this just trying to stay alive for the next four years until he was captured by slavers. As luck would have it, the slave caravan was attacked by bandits. They let Vic go along with the other slaves. But Vic was starving. He got little food from the slavers and the fact that they beat him regularly made him downright ravenous by the time the bandits came along. Vic followed them until nightfall and waited until they were asleep. He ate from their food and when the bandits awoke the following morning, they found him curled up by the remains of the campfire.

They weren’t exactly pleased, but Vic managed to strike a deal with them. He would help them on the next raid to pay back for the food and then leave. They agreed. However, one thing led to another and before anyone realized what was going on, Vic was a member of their band. It is during this time that he received the majority of his scars.

At 21, they stumbled across a patrol of Brotherhood members. A grenade blew up near Vic. The rest of the band was killed and Vic was left for dead. But he didn’t die. He lived on, vowing revenge on the Brotherhood members. Unfortunately, he never caught their names and they all looked the same in their power armor so he never got too far on that vow.

His travels eventually landed him in New York where one day at noon he heard a broadcast . . .

This is a minor thing, but I feel I ought to make it known that I'll be running the RP from my Playstation rather than my phone. It's not as good as a PC, but it's a step up from the limitations of my phone with a cracked screen. I will be able to monitor the RP from this system at least once every 12 hours and I will perform periodic check ins from my phone whenever possible (including breaks from work and what have you.

As a friendly reminder, I will allocate all starting skill points using a formula based upon the values placed in SPECIAL. I realize that my character needs some tweaking in this aspect, but I assure you that I will perform the necessary updates in a timely manner. If I PM you an updated version of your skill points, please don't complain or give me a hard time, I'm trying to keep characters balanced.

The position of co-gm is still open to anyone willing to take up the responsibility. I would greatly appreciate the help and your input will be respected and given the attention it deserves. I won't treat my co-gm poorly.

There will be plenty of opportunities to improve your skill points, but they will primarily be augmented by successfully meeting skill checks. If you want to improve your guns skill, use guns more often, the same goes for any skill. Pass 10 skill checks and you can add 3 points to that skill.

It simply wouldn't be the Fallout experience without perks. Once I have a co-gm, they and I will compile a master list of perks availible to players. Whenever a 21 skill points have been added (they don't have to be in the same skill) a player is awarded a perk.

Considering the general lack of players in the RP I am extending registration by 1 week. Next Saturday is the new date. Hopefully some more interest can be drawn by then.

Born in Vault 13 in the year 2240, his time spent was short lived when Enclave stormed and kidnapped the inhabitants a year later. Spending time in captivity under the Enclaves, he grew a distaste for energy weapons and most things related to the US. Having been freed from the Enclave by a tribal, Wade ventured around San Francisco for most of his teenage life, learning most of his repair skills from the Shi.

At age 17 he eventually made his way back home to Vault 13 however he was forced to change plans due to his old home being residence to a family of deathclaws and so detoured into Angel’s Boneyard(Los Angeles). Wade temporarily took up residence in the Boneyard, making a living doing odd repair jobs for the stationed NCR and other affiliates. During his time there, he scavenges an AKM and other miscellaneous Soviet gear from the consulate ruins which he favours and has kept with him since. After two years, he leaves to travel east in hopes of scavenging interesting old world technologies.
Wade, during his travels, made trade at several established communities along the way such as Canyon and Junction City among others. After 7 years of travelling, he reached the ruins of Washington DC, taking residence in Rivet city before hearing the Long Haul Caravan’s transmission which he then made way to the New York ruins.

Personal History:
Born and raised in Raceway New Jersey, a small community based around an apple orchard, Daniel grew up relatively sheltered from the harsh realities of the wasteland. Taught from a young age to protect the community from dangerous wildlife and raiders Daniel honed his skills with his prized possession, his Springfield rifle. Distance is safety, that was the motto of the Raceway guard, the group responsible for the safety of the people living there. He excelled with the rifle, maintaining a razor focus behind the trigger. He fought to protect rather than to end the lives of threats, a philosophy that kept his kind nature intact. As a member of the Raceway community he was expected to work regularly in the orchard, tending to the apple trees. He enjoyed that, smiling as he worked, carefully and warmly watching over them. As travel along the turnpike slowed Daniel knew his home would eventually run out of supplies. He informed his supervisor at the orchard and the chief of the guard his intention to leave, to go out and find traders willing to go out to them in exchange for apples shelter and what hospitality Raceway could offer. The men understood his resolve and sent him on his journey, giving him their best and offering whatever they could for supplies.

After months of nearly aimless searching he came across the remains of an ambushed caravan, five dead men, and a woman, brahmin on fire, but in the distance he heard a soft sobbing, quiet, almost undetectable to most. Following the sound he found a young woman, no older than19, crying bitterly, holding a knife over the corpse of a dead raider. He comforted her, and over the journey back to her caravan's base they talked, bonded and eventually fell in love. He watched over her and she traded to keep them fed. As she returned to work she joined the Long Haul Caravan company, and opened up a trade route to Raceway.

Years later Daniel and the trader (who was named Susan) got married and started a family. At present they only have one child, a daughter named Rebecca. Due to his wife's history with Long Haul, Daniel was offered the job before the broadcast was sent out and took it on the condition that Long Haul opens a branch in Raceway occupying the pre-war mall (securing both Raceway and his family from harm, a strong economy and good defenses will help protect his home more than his single rifle can.)

Personal history:
Born as the son of a slave, John escaped at the cost of his father's life at age 6. Found shortly after by a wandering doctor John was raised in his care. The two traveled across the wasteland, so much so that John actually forgot where he started. The doctor was amazed by the boy's capability to learn, and taught him everything he knew. When that ran dry, at age 11 for John, the two began to search through old-world libraries and eventually found the ruins of several colleges. The young boy tore through volumes learning all he could, so he may one day be the brightest medical mind in the wastes.

At age 17 his adoptive father died due to complications of severe radiation poisoning. That moment stuck with John. His last words to John were reciting the hippocratic oath, and lastly telling John that he bestows onto him the title of Medical Doctor. For the remaining 3 years prior to responding to Long Haul's signal he too wandered the wastes, treating whoever he could in exchange for textbooks or various supplies, never accepting caps as payment.

John's final memories with the traveling doctor have left him convinced that he must do whatever he can to relieve the suffering of others. His resolve grants him +15 to medicine and science at the cost of -5 to all combat related skills.

Daniel walked calmly into the Long Haul Caravan company's makeshift office, sunlight spilling through the tattered curtains and onto the cracked floor. The old-world warehouse Long Haul used always had a metallic scent to the air. The smell always got to him, it smelt like blood, like Susan when he first met her, terrified and crying. It was eerie, but the staff had gotten used to it. Mr. Davidson, the main branch manager, strode confidently to meet Daniel with a warm grin. "How's Susan?" He asked with a familiarity Daniel wasn't comfortable with. "Fine" he half scoffed. "Hey, hey, no need for the hostility, you took one of our best caravaneers though, so shouldn't we be the ones resenting you?" Mr Davidson added smilingly. "At any rate, I got the approval for your request, and we'll give your pay directly to Susan as you asked. Now that business is out of the way, how's that charming daughter of yours, Rebecca wasn't it?" It wasn't as if Daniel didn't enjoy talking about his family, but with important men, especially ones in business, often use information they gather that way as leverage. Maintaining his calm Daniel responded, "yes, it is Rebecca." An awkward silence filled the air as the two waited for the others.
