“Of course they’re all good. I, the great Leala made them,” Leala said with smile on her face. “Oh, Katsumi~. Let me introduce you our new members properly. Their names are: Johnny, Camerin, and Reisys. They will be joining our community as of today,” Leala said happily as her tail could be seen wagging.
“Welcome. I’ll be looking forward working with you three. I hope we can work together to bring success to our community.”
Camerin, still focused on drinking his coffee gave a nod of acknowledgment to Katsumi. “Glad to be here, though I don’t know what the hell is going on, but I can speak for the three of us that we’ll have a good time here.” He said in between sips.
“That being said, though…” Johnny said while chewing on his food. He paused to finish consuming it before continuing. “What do these Gift Games accomplish for the community? We were told that in these Gift Games, we could gamble a variety of things, but they can affect the community as a whole? I figured we’d only be betting things personal to us, and there’d only be personal losses or gains…” He inquired of Katsumi. When he finished talking, he took another bite from his pancake before waiting for a response.
Kin’iro placed her dining utensils as she faced Johnny. “Usually, communities partake in Gift Games hosted by other communities, or Host Masters, in order to go up the ranks. Despite how slow the entire process is,” Kin’iro answered in Katsumi’s place, seeing as Katsumi wasn’t the talkative type, at all. Besides, as a Judge Master; she was a more suitable person to talk to this about. “The smaller communities tends to enter Gift Games for more essential reasons, however. Such as getting water, or ingredient supplies for food. But… back to your question; whatever Gifts you possess are essentially considered as a community’s in general – usually, unless special circumstances are in place. Currently, there aren’t many Gift users in this community; if we have anything big to even bet, it’d be the Gifts or belongings of us all sitting across this very table.”
“Man, needing to gamble to get basic necessities… Sounds like that’s very hard on these small communities…” Johnny commented. He noted the large amount of people in the dining hall again, and wondered out loud, “Is this our entire community? Do we need to partake in games just to eat?” It was intentional. He was seeking answers.
“As you can see, yes,” Kin’iro said, with her usual smile. She then decided to answer further, picking up her spoon and fork again. “Not as much as you think. Our community does slightly better. So, our state works in favor against the need to fight for necessities. We’re looking to evolve, and cross the stairs of rankings, so to say,” she then broke down her scrambled egg neatly and slowly with a knife; before plucking a portion of it and placing it into her mouth; munching her food.
“Well, that’s good, then…” Johnny said with a hint of relief in his voice. He wasn’t used to being poor and hungry. Even when he ran away from home, he lived comfortably off of his winnings at the local casino. “So, Gifts are rare, then? Not everyone in Miniature Garden has one? If so, I’d kinda be hesitant to risk my Gift.” He laughed. “It’s made my life too fun! Surely, there are some spoils we can keep for ourselves if we do win these games, right?”
“Well, I’m not sure how much Leala explained here, but obviously you win what the other side bets – as their chips,” Kin’iro begun the explanation after taking another bite, this time; from her delicious-looking bacon. “You can simply choose not to bet your own treasured Gift, and may place something else on the line if the rules do not restrict it; while having your opponents bet their Gifts,” Kin’iro stated in a matter of factly manner. There were many ways to go about Gift Games and Gifts themselves, after all. People are even able to buy Gifts, from trading communities such as Thousand Eyes, for instance. “Such instances have ocurred many times in the Miniature Garden – which is why there are many individuals with countless Gifts,” she said, then paused, taking a sip of her mango-flavored juice. “You’re speaking to one at the moment, in fact.”
It was at this point that Johnny was reminded of who he was talking to. He was going to ask You have multiple gifts? And inquire further about how she obtained them, but he found himself again entranced by Kin’iro Usagi’s magnificent bosom. I’m sure any man could be tempted by these. I wonder if… He shook his head to try to get his mind back on the right track. “A-anyways… uh-m… D-does Katsumi have some amount of Gifts, too? She seems like a strong person to be able to guide all these people…” Johnny emphasized his statement by pointing around the room. Many of the residents appeared to be children or elderly.
“I only have one Gift currently. I only just became the leader a year ago and many things happened during that time,” Katsumi said as she then took a bite of her food. “Most of the Gifts we have here belong to the entire community, not just to one person. Since they’re needed for necessity or emergencies.”
“What have I told you about my Gifts, again?” Kin’iro said with a pout. She stopped eating as she spoke. “Those are my collection,” she said. Despite having a smiling face, something scary loomed under it. “I’d prefer it if you don’t lay claim in such a manner.” Kin’iro said this because her Gifts could be extremely useful in emergencies. Like, if a Demon Lord appeared. Not in the sense of absolute survival cases such as water or food deprivation. She thought that they were off that page already. In fact, they should have been off of it already.
“I wasn’t talking about your Gifts, and I had told you before that we won’t bother you about your Gifts,” Katsumi said as she looked at Kin’iro, “I believe I also told you, when I mention our community; your Gifts aren’t included.”
“Right, right,” Kin’iro said dismissively. “Just don’t go talking about others’ Gifts as your community’s property before me, and I’ll stay quiet,” said Kin’iro. Others’ as in, other Gift Users in the community. This especially included the new members, but it seemed that they quite weren’t on the same page, even now.
“I don’t believe I ever said other people’s Gift belong to the community. The Gifts you earn are yours to keep. If you want to contribute to the community that is your decision as well.”
“Hey Damn Rabbit, leave Katsumi alone! The community Gifts are the ones me and her managed to win. So you shouldn’t think that when we talk about our community Gifts, we’re talking about yours too!” Leala said angrily while glaring at Kin’iro.
Kin’iro casually ignored Leala’s outburst as she responded to Katsumi. “Oh, you said †˜most’ of the Gifts, and when I thought about it; you guys hardly have many Gifts, so I might’ve misunderstood that way~,” she said, cracking up a smile yet again as her words were filled with sarcasm. She then took up her dining utensils again, deciding to finish her food. Katsumi did had issues in terms of wording. If she wanted to be a great leader; perhaps she needed to think before speaking. This was the usual issue with those tending to be the silent type, after all. She wouldn’t let Katsumi hide behind that excuse forever, however.
Katsumi gave a small a sigh before moving on. “Well then, I have something I want to announce to you all. But first I want to make sure if you are willing to partake in the event involving our community, and if you’re willing to help us out?” Katsumi said as she looked at Reisys, Johnny, and Camerin.
“Well of course;” Camerin replied. “If anything we would've gone back home if we didn't want to help. And quite honestly, I'm pretty bored.” He leaned back in his chair wrapping his hands to the back of his head. Unfortunately for them, going home wasn’t so easy as it sounded. Crossing dimensions getting to the Miniature Garden wasn’t as easy as it sounded, but these newbies had no idea of that, just yet.
“Count me in. Like he said, we wouldn’t be here otherwise.” Johnny grinned, anticipating some fun. “I can’t wait to hear what game we’ll play!”
“You can count me in as well.” Reisys simply said.
“Very well then. Then I’d like you three to join us in the upcoming Atalanta Challenge Event.”
“Oh? You guys are entering that one? I somewhat didn’t expected it,” Kin’iro said, apparently surprised as she finished eating; rubbing her cherry-pink lips with a tissue. A smaller community joining a big event… did they have what it would need to beat it? Kin’iro was full of doubts. “I was asked to judge for it.” Indeed she was. The pay seemed good, too. As a Judge Master – Kin’iro tends to receive plenty of job requests for her to judge and MC for Gift Games mentioned in said requests. This was but one of her income of money.
Johnny tilted his head to the side and asked, “Wait, what is that?” When he first heard it, he thought Katsumi said †˜Atlanta’. Regardless, he could not determine what kind of game it could be from it’s name. Kiniro’s words finally sunk in, as well. Hold on… judge? So, it’s like one of those sanctioned events, then. Makes sense… but… Something struck him as odd.
"Care to elaborate?" Asked Camerin, his lack of knowledge to the Gift Games left him in the dark.
“Wait you two have never heard about Atalanta before? I would have expected at least Camerin to know about her,” Leala said feeling surprised “What about you, Reisys, have you heard about her before? And, damn you, Rabbit! Why didn’t you tell us you got hired before hand?!”
“Ku ku ku…Of course I know who she is. She was a heroine in Greek mythology. I would imagine her event might be related to her legend but I doubt they would make it so obvious.”
“Oh, because I thought you guys wouldn’t really care,” Ki’niro replied with a smile. “Not like it’d make an actual difference even if I did inform you two.” Besides, she wasn’t quite informed beforehand that they were planning to enter this particular Gift Game. She was not at fault, at all. How could she ever be at fault, anyway? The mere thought of it implied an astounding level of nonsense. How preposterous. An absolute impossibility.
“Speaking of which, Bunny Girl…” Johnny interrupted Leala’s confrontation. “Should you really be judging for this event if we’re participating in it? Judges are supposed to be impartial…” He recalled his memories of various tournaments he played in his world, and wondered if they applied here.
Kin’iro grinned before looked at Leala, then confronted Johnny’s eyes shortly, “I’m perfectly impartial – especially when it comes to you people,” she stated with pure delight as she made a peace sign with her fingers. “An aristocrat of the Miniature Garden would explode to magnificent sparkling bits if they break the rules, anyway. My eyes and ears are connected to the central core of the Miniature Garden, after all,” and indeed they were. The central core of the Miniature Garden was able to roughly understand anything that happened in the life of a rabbit, after all. Kin’iro was – obviously – a Moon Rabbit from the old tragic stories. A member of the god’s household who rules over the Miniature Garden.
“O….kay… wow…” Johnny was surprised that Kin’iro could say with such enthusiasm that one may literally explode if a rule is broken. Well, it means this should be a fair game, then. That’s good. He nodded his head in approval.
“Lovely,” Camerin remarked in sheer sarcasm. As interesting as someone spontaneously combusting into small bits, it would be rather unpleasant for the festivities, he thought. Though judging by the bunny-woman’s first impression she gave him, Camerin thought she had a mischievous side to her as well, which was unsettling to say the least.
“Whatever, you always go off doing things on your own, you Damn Rabbit!” Leala said as she pointed at Kin’iro and glared at her for a second. “That is correct, Reisys, but the event is gonna be just like her legend, like it says so here on her invitation.”
“Well, it is my life, after all. May as well live with poise, and grace. Freedom is an added luxury and a golden trove of treasure.” Kin’rio prized her freedom above everything else, after all. If she were to abandon even a portion of it; she’d make sure to benefit tenfolds from it, at least. As she did so by joining this community.
Camerin leaned forward, intrigued. “So could you tell us more on Atalanta's legend and how it could be link to the event?”
“You seem to know it, Leala. Go on, explain it for us. I’m sure we’ll understand if we hear it from †˜the Great Leala’!” Johnny praised her, barely hiding his sarcasm.
“I believe someone wants to die~,” Leala said with a smile, looking at Johnny. “Anyways, Atalanta is a Greek Heroine like Reisys said. She was the first one to injure the Calydonian Boar. Which was a massive boar that was terrorizing the land back then. She also defeated many men on foot races. This is what she is mostly known by well. The story that she got turned into a lion is a known fact as well.”
“A lion?” Camerin questioned. “That's an untimely turn of events.”
“Scary~” Johnny pretended to cower in mock fear to Leala’s threat. Then he asked sincerely, “So, what does that have to do with the game we’re about to participate in? We racing against something?”
“Correct, the event is gonna be a race. There is going to be a second part but that is only to be told to the winners of the race.”
“A second part for only the winner…” Johnny repeated in order for him to process it better. “Then, we’re facing other communities, aren’t we?” He made a guess and asked Katsumi to confirm.
“Yes. There will be many strong communities participating as well since rumors say Atalanta will be giving away a rare gift, but honestly no one knows what the prize really is currently.”
“Then will be participating in an event without even knowing what will be getting?”
“Yes, but I’m pretty sure Atalanta will make it worth the effort. I never heard of her giving a horrible prize to the last few winners of her event.”
“Indeed, the Gift rewards are quite interesting to say the least, for this particular Gift Game,” said Kin’iro, participating in the topic at last. “I was told what the second challenge is; but Atalanta kindly requested that I don’t reveal it,” she added.
“Ku ku ku…Maybe we can force it out of you, Bunny Girl.” Reisys said with a smirk.
“If you all can, anyway,” Kin’iro said with a chuckle, her nose all sky high. She didn’t even feel for a moment that this young vampire could outdo her, much less threaten her.
“Hold on…” Johnny interrupted Leala. “Atalanta is a real person? I thought she was merely a Greek Legend?”
“Of course she is. If she wasn’t, she wouldn’t be holding this event.”
“A fact is, almost all the mythological beings from storybooks and tales are actually beings in existence here, or had once actually lived a life in this grand world known as the Miniature Garden,” Kin’iro explained, as she spread her arms – letting the three newcomers know of the greatness of this place. Indeed, people used to believe that the heroes of old times became a part of the stars and shined down their glory upon the lands. What they didn’t know, was that these legendary, fabled heroes and heroines alike, including the more intriguing and celebrated individuals were actually invited to the Miniature Garden.
“So you mean to tell me that even Count Dracula himself lives in this world?”
“Yes, absolutely!” Kin’iro replied to the vampire with glee without taking even a moment to ponder about it.
“Really? No wonder there’s all the fantasy elements that exist in this world. Vampires, animal people, magic… What’s next?” Johnny commented while laughing.
“Next would be… demons, or Demon Lords, perhaps?” Kin’iro added after Johnny with a smile.
