I think this thread probably belongs in Writing and Fanfiction.
One reason you run out of gas in the middle of writing a story is that you don't have the full plot envisioned, or you've written your characters into a corner, or you've realized your story isn't working. These are all plot problems. So here are some tested ways of understanding plot. Maybe one of them will click with you and help you get your tale back on track.
Good luck!
"Mommy's Boy" has all the ingredients for the ending in one or two chapters from where it currently is. (Not counting work in progress chapter 13) Its just a matter of finishing it if he so desires.
I haven't read Randomness' other story but +1 for that plot advice. Think about your current story a bit and what has gone on thus far. Then ask yourself "Have I dug myself into a hole?", "Is what's going on making sense?", "Where am I going with this?". Critical editing and thinking is a very important part of making a good story. If it helps write down the sequence of big events you want to have happen between now and your desired ending. There is nothing wrong with going back and changing some parts to help the overall story as well.
That paragraph above and what Wordmangler said are why its hard for me to write a multi-chapter story. I don't plan very far in my stories so they end up being short and sometimes nonsensical things turn up.
