One Shots in First Person

Quite the philosophical high you have developed with this one, which I feel very attached to. I do wonder how long this has been in development as the beginning two sentences have clearly been in your head for quite a while. Before your current forum signature, they used to be there, albeit in a slightly different form. I've recalled them in detail as being a powerful quote that can hold much.

I feel that this particular short story is exceptionally special and thought-provoking. Well done.

Hmmm, all your one-shots are technique. I'd like to say your one-shots don't have emotion, but it's more like you're turning emotion into very fine reason. Basically, there's no conflict, it's more like just resolutions. To me, it's just not very captivating; I don't find myself wanting to read your next ones.

From the Gallery -
I'd just like to point out the narrator could be called that angel, the one who sits and silently observes. "Padre" seems to think no "good force" would ever allow the enemy forces to have an ICBM, and then proceeds to suicide-bomb himself into their base. Just something to think about.

I don't think the overall theme is very clear.

The Player -
This doesn't seem to have a meaning or theme, just some nice perspective to read.

Everything here is so short that I don't think there would be room for a developed conflict, but I suppose that in itself is a shortfall.

In "From the Gallery" the pilot's callsign Padre is supposed to imply that he's a man of faith. What he describes is his loss of faith and the action he takes is to counteract what he believes God's inaction will bring about. The suicide bombing is the decision he comes to when the missile begins launch preparations, making it a last resort, too. I was and am very unsure about this one because the entire time I struggled to not switch to third person and expand the set-up for Padre's death.

"The Player" is actually meant to be emotionally coarse and isn't meant to draw empathy for the narrator. It's a man that has done wrong and wants to enjoy something he doesn't really deserve. The way he thinks that suits his "villainous" ways so well helps him draw a conclusion that will satisfy him. It's a very narcissistic POV.

Anyway thanks for reading what you have, Neo. Maybe in time I'll diversify the focus of the first person writing I do or just revert back to third and write more than a quarter page.
