This RP is the re-invention of the New York Times best-selling book “The Hunger Games” written by Suzzane Collins. I am inspired by the story on how the protagonist (Katniss Everdeen) was able to survive the tragic life in the arena. And on the same way, I wanted to create RP that will bring forth the feeling I felt when I was reading the book…
The Hunger games is also adapted to be a film, showing March 23, 2012...
Here's the two trailers that might help you along...
The First Trailer
The Second Trailer
The Hunger Games (Background):
Every year since the Dark Days (which occurred 99 years before the events of The Hunger Games), the Capitol hosts an event called the Hunger Games. The Games consists of two children aged 12–18 from each district, one boy and one girl, who are chosen by lottery to compete in a broadcast death tournament, which is mandatory viewing for the whole country. While in general, the District citizens reluctantly watch them and despise them, the Capitol citizens see it as entertainment.
The Stages:
Spoiler:
†¢ The Reaping
When a citizen turns 12 years old, his or her name is automatically entered in the "reaping," a lottery from which the tributes are drawn. For every year until they turn 18, they are entered in one additional time.
On the reaping day, a spokesperson from the Capitol comes and chooses at random one name from each reaping ball, selecting the two tributes that are forced to compete. However, any other citizen of the same sex, from ages 12 to 18, can volunteer for the tribute.
†¢ The Preparation
The tributes are then taken immediately to the Capitol, where they are given a makeover by a team of stylists to look appealing for a TV audience (Katniss's was named Cinna), learn strategy with mentors (which are the previous winners of the Games from their districts) and participate in a parade and interviews along with the other tributes.
†¢ The Show
They also receive training with weapons and other supplies which they use to impress a team of judges, the Gamemakers, who then score their skills in accordance. These scores are made public to show who has the best chances of surviving, which can attract sponsors and help with the betting.
†¢ The Final Interview
A day after the scores are revealed, a final interview will be held. The said event will be hosted by Caesar Flickerman, a man well-known from the Capitol. The day after the final interviews, the Games begin. Most people with the higher scores are targeted first because they are considered to be threats.
†¢ The Games
The tributes are put into an underground room until game time, where they are lifted up by tubes to the arena built specially for the Games by the Capitol (which is usually surrounded by a force field) that differs every year. They are instructed not to move from the plates they were deposited on for 60 seconds, before rushing to the giant, golden, supply-filled Giant Cornucopia—or else suffer death via the explosives planted around the plates. The initial "bloodbath" begins after a loud gong sounds signaling the start of the games, in which the tributes fight to get the best supplies in the Cornucopia, which can be food, water, weapons, tools, or other useful items. The closer to the Cornucopia they are the more valuable and useful the items are.
Because so many tributes die in the first few minutes, the Capitol waits until nighttime to broadcast to the surviving tributes the names of the dead. The seal of Panem appears in the sky, followed by the pictures of the dead tributes in district order. The remaining tributes continue fighting and killing each other – if they do not move fast enough or avoid conflict for too long, the Gamemakers sometimes create hazards in order to generate excitement for the viewers and to force the remaining tributes to fight. Another common occurrence is a "Feast," where a boon of extra supplies or food is granted to the tributes, announced at a particular place and time—though whether it is a lavish feast, carefully relegated supplies, or a single loaf of stale bread for the tributes to fight over is up to the Gamemakers.
The Setting:
Spoiler:
Panem
It "rose out of the ashes" of what was North America, which had been devastated by global nuclear war mand/or major climate change. There is a controlling Capitol city and twelve districts. The Capitol is located in the Rocky Mountains. Long after the global war, and 99 years before the start of the first novel, there was a war within Panem in which the districts rebelled against the Capitol. This time was called the "Dark Days", and it resulted in the apparent destruction of District 13 and the creation of the Hunger Games.
Panem comes from the Latin phrase "Panem et Circenses" which means "Bread and Circuses."This is also a reference to the actual Games.
The Capitol
The city of the Capitol, seat of Panem's totalitarian government, is located in the northwestern Rocky Mountains of the former United States & Canada and is the home of dictator President Coriolanus Snow. The Hunger Games were conceived by Panem's government in the aftermath of a rebellion known only as the Dark Days.
Capitol citizens are shown to be mostly preoccupied with fashion, food, and entertainment. Dyes, tattoos, wigs, and costumes of myriad style and vivid colors are all the rage. Plastic surgery and other extreme makeovers are commonplace. The entire population of the Capitol eagerly anticipates the annual Hunger Games as the highlight of the year's entertainment. Capitol citizens manifest almost no concern for or even awareness of the desperate, starvation-level poverty conditions in which most district citizens live, or the tremendous injustice and tragedy of the Hunger Games. It appears that most of the citizens from the Capitol have names taken from ancient Rome and ancient Greece.
Citizens of the Capitol speak with a distinctive accent, described as "silly", and high pitched with clipped tones and odd vowels, the ends of sentences going up as if they're asking a question and a hiss at the letter "s”
The Districts
Spoiler:
District 1
District 1 makes special goods (luxury items) for the Capitol. It appears that all the people from District 1 are named for an attribute of some luxury item. Children there take pride in competing in the Games, and are among the group of tributes nicknamed "Careers", who train for the Games (illegally) from a young age and then volunteer to compete. Once the Games begin, the tributes from the Careers districts (including, Districts 1, 2, 4, and occasionally other districts as exceptions) tend to band together until they are forced to fight among themselves, and a disproportionate number of Hunger Games winners are Careers.
District 2
District 2 is a large district set in the Rocky Mountains not far from the Capitol itself. The district is made up of many small villages, each based around a mine. In the midst of District 2 is a central mountain (referred to as "The Nut" by Katniss) which contains the command and control apparatus for the Capitol's defenses. Originally District 2 specialized only in mining and stone cutting, but after the Dark Days war it was also tasked with production of weapons.
During the Dark Days, District 2 was the Capitol's staunchest ally and after that rebellion was over, it received preferential treatment from the Capitol. Its citizens have better living conditions.
District 2 tributes are known as Careers because they begin training for the games before they are even eligible to enter the drawing. Those who represent 2 in the Games are often volunteers
District 3
District 3 specializes in electronics. Most of its inhabitants work in factories and are very adept with engineering. Some people think of District 3 as weak, but their intelligence provides many benefits. Its tributes tend to use this to their advantage. In the previous Hunger Games, the District 3 tribute managed to create a mine field cobbled together from the starting plates.
District 4
District 4 fishes for the Capitol, and is another wealthy district from which Careers hail. The main district is surrounded by sea, enabling all the inhabitants to be all well- swimmers. This ability has given them advantage throughout the games. It is said that District 4 has the most "decent-looking" people.
District 5
District 5's industry is power. It provides all the electrical energy for the Panem. It is said that this district is mainly occupied with power plants and buildings, making them dependent on the other districts in terms of food.
District 6
District 6's industry is Transportation. Not much else is known about this district.
District 7
District 7 specializes in lumber and paper. People here are subjected to labor from a very young age, and trained with axe and sorts to help gain lumber. Apparently a large portion of District 7's forest is pine.
District 8
District 8 specializes in textiles and has at least one factory where Peacekeeper uniforms are made. It is implied that security is strict in 8, and the citizens are desperate for hope.
District 9
The industry of District 9 is grain. It is mentioned once that District 9 has many factories. Not much else is known about this district.
District 10
District 10 specializes in livestock. This district is also known for poultry. Many animals are found such as cows, pigs, turkeys and others.
District 11
District 11 specializes in agriculture. It is located somewhere in the south and is very large. The people are housed in small shacks and there is a harsh force of Peacekeepers. Common traits are dark skin and brown eyes. In the orchards small children were sent into the branches to pick the highest fruit. Sometimes during the height of the harvest they were given night-vision goggles to allow them to work after dark. The district also contained fields of grain and vegetables. The inhabitants apparently had extensive knowledge of herbs.
District 12
District 12 mines coal for the Capitol. It is located in the Appalachian Mountains, and the district itself is split into two areas housing two distinct social classes. "The Seam" is a slum where those who work in the coal mines live, whereas the mercantile class lives in the town. Both classes are easy to distinguish physically: those from the Seam generally have dark hair, grey eyes and olive skin, and those from merchant families usually have blond hair and blue eyes.
District 12 is very poor, and starvation is a major issue for the citizens. Due the lack of food, the local Capitol authority figures — the Mayor and Peacekeepers — often bend the extremely strict Panem laws. The fence surrounding the district and preventing access to the woods is often not electrified.
Muttations:
Muttations, usually shortened to "mutts," is the term for genetically altered animals bred in the Capitol. It is often made for the games, which came out of nowhere where the Gamemakers want them.
Alliances:
In most Games, a well-stocked group of tributes (called "Careers", usually from the well-off Districts of 1, 2, and 4) band together to hunt down other individuals, until they are the only ones left to fight each other. But like the others, any district can form their Alliance...
The RP Proper:
Because of the nature of the game, it’d best for a Health Point (HP) System to kind of regulate our characters so we don’t get into a god-modding situation where we just “survive” (Lustful Angel, Mirrai Nikki).
In the Bloodbath at the Cornucopia, District that is not taken by players is subjected to die in the first day. On the other side, the players participating will use dice in taking turns of attacking. Those that will survive in each of the Game maker’s nasty challenges will increase stat point(s) according to the said challenge.
Stat Points:
Not only will we be guided through hit points but there will be several statistical categories that will govern The Survival Game and I shall explain them in the following (Lustful Angel, Mirrai Nikki):
1: Character HP: This needn't dwell on much but it pertains to your health and thereby whether or not you shall compete or fall. Character HP calculations:
(def x2)+Attack
2:Attack: This shall determine your attacking strength
3:Speed: This category is the one that'll determine your ability to flee from battle or a dangerous situation or for dodging attacks.
4: Defense: If you are determined to fight until the end, this shall determine your ability to withstand attacks.
5: Intelligence: This will determine how well you're able to plan your attacks as well as to potentially figure out an enemy's move.
The Rules:
1.) No Godmodding
2.) A minimum of a single post per day is required. If it happens that you didn’t pass the condition, your character will die in various reasons (e.g. starvation, by mutts, fellow tributes, accident, etc.)
3.) Your post must be well written as best as possible. Please, we are all grownups now…
4.) By all means, enjoy.
Character Sheet:
Spoiler:
(Here’s an example of a character sheet you must provide below.) Name: Wendell O’ Connell Age: 16 years old. (age must be 12-18 only) Gender: Male District: District 2- Weaponry Personality: Jolly and Pageantry. His constant smile shows his friendly character. He has a very huge devotion for his family, especially to his sister, Bianca. Ability: Upper strength is tremendous. His muscle power due to his work as a blacksmith has molded his arms into a fighting machine. Appearance: Blonde, ashy hair and eyes with shades of sunset- a rim of orange and yellow. His body is of stocky build, and is not so high in stature. Due to his work as a blacksmith, his body was formed perfectly. Hard muscles and solid-rock abs.
Stat: Character HP: 7 (2 x 2) + 3 Attack:3 Speed: 4 Defense: 2 Intelligence: 3
(Note: The total stat points is 15. Use them effectively and distribute them to each of stat as you see fit for your character.)
Background: His parents died a year ago by a huge explosion, leaving him and his little sister Bianca of starvation. When Wendell turned 12, he managed to work as a blacksmith to survive. Though this is quite exhausting for his age, he pursues, not afraid of the fatigue and pain, to keep both of them alive.
Send a Profile like this one (or in whatever format you want, as long as it’s easily readable). You cannot use a character from the books, though. We will be playing the 99th Hunger Games (assuming the revolution never happened, like what is stated on the book) and characters from the past are NOT recommended. Also, make sure that your character will complement with the district he represents.
So in Wendell’s example, he has a high defense (2*2=4) +3 compared from his Attack so he has 7 HP. But don’t put all your stat points on Attack and Defense Points only. You don’t want to make a dumb character. Nor a slowpoke. Do you?
Stat Points:
†¢ Attack- Are points used when engaging in a battle. More attack Points, more chances of winning.
†¢ Defense- Are points used when defending thy self in a battle. The more the tree is sturdy, the more it’s difficult to be wrecked down.
†¢ Speed- Are points used in fleeing. This is best suitable in Survival Games. A tribute with higher speed points has less chances of being attacked by Muttations.
†¢ Intelligence- Are points used for decision making, and critical thinking. A tribute with higher intelligence points has less chances of encountering a Hazard.
Earning Points:
Spoiler:
Earning Points can be done in a number of ways, the max points one can earn at a time is 2 points for a category (or you can divide the points into two categories) (Lustful Angel, Mirrai Nikki).
1) The Bloodbath: If you're able to successfully escape/defend from the bloodbath at the Cornucopia, you'll get a +2 in either Defense or Speed; whichever one you choose. You’ll be able to be granted a specific weapon form the cornucopia you wish (list of weapons are below)
2) Successful Escape/ Survival: If you've successfully escaped or survived one of the Gamemaker’s frantic Challenges, you will be given points according to the challenge you succeeded.
†¢ Hazard- A drastic change in climate, environment, and surroundings (e.g. Volcanic Eruption, Flood, Landslide, Tsunami, Typhoon, etc.). The survivor of this challenge will be granted a +2 in either Speed or Intelligence; again, whichever one you choose.
†¢ Muttation Attack- A surprise ambush from Muttations (e.g. Genetically Altered Wolves, Scorching Phoenix, Giant Vipers, etc.). The survivor of these attacks will be granted a +1 in all Stat Points.
†¢ Death Match – A battle with another tribute (However, killing a tribute on the bloodbath is not included). There are many situations regarding this:
a. T.K.O- is a battle where one tribute dies and the other wins. The winner is subjected to consume ALL the points of the defeated player.
b. Double Down- is a battle where one tribute kills two tributes in a row. The winner is will be granted ALL the points of one of the defeated players, and will consume the weapon of the other.
c. Killing Spree- killing three or more people in a row. The winner will be granted +5 in all stat points.
d. Draw- Is when a battle is interrupted, or seized-and no death has been made. Both players will be deducted (-1) in both Attack and Defense points.
Surviving:
In Hazard, a tribute is said to be successful if the Game Makers have seized. This will be all to the satisfaction of the Game Maker. Yes, it is unfair. But you are playing for the happiness of the Capitol, and by the rules of the Game Makers.
In Muttation Attacks, there will be accumulated HP points for each mutt. Each of their attacks inflicts specific damage (The details for the attacking mutts will be posted once the actual games begin).
In Death Match, This is between the players, themselves. They are in the verge of choosing. Battle till they die, or, raise their white flags and eat the deduction…
List of Weapons:
Spoiler:
These are weapons to be found in Cornucopia. The same weapons are to be used in the Training Center, before the Games.

He likes to spend time alone. A loner. That is why when at the reaping, no one ever volunteered for him, not even a bit of support because he is not a socialite. He finds it hard to make friends with anyone. Appearance: His fit body is due to his lifestyle. Because of being born as a swimmer, a very athletic physique can be found in him. His tanned skin is well- presented with his pitch-black eyes, and brunette hair.
Stat:
Character HP: 7 (2 x 2) + 3 Attack: 3 Speed: 5 Defense: 2 Intelligence: 2
Background: He grew up alone. He didn’t had the chance to know his parents. He was adopted by a fisherman when he was just a baby. Because of his adopted father’s nature, he used to be a good fisherman too. He doesn’t want to find his biological parents, though. Because of the incident, he was raised independent, self reliant.
3 years ago, his best friend and lover, Madge, was sent into the arena to and died in the blood bath at the Cornucopia. The pain of losing a friend took a toll on his emotion, making his heart rock-hard. And he swore to himself, that he will seek for revenge.
It's 99th because if this turns out to be successful, I am planning to have a Grand Quell (A special Hunger games that only takes place every 25 years)...
So its finally out. Unfortunately for me, my laptop is still under repairs so could you reserve me the slot for the District 2 female(yes, going for something different now) my laptop should be fixed by the end of the week. . . Now his father had been caught up in a rebel scheme, all of his money was seized by the government, and Razel was taken hostage by the rebels. As a last hope Tiji volunteered for the Hunger Games hoping that he could pay off the Resistance with the wealth he won...
