So if there's one thing I despise more than anything else it is predictability. Call me jaded, but if I can foretell any part of a narrative hailed as something completely amazing, then the author didn't try hard enough (excluding obvious foreshadowing, I'm talking plot devices here)
So, since I hate the conventional so much, I figured I should test the waters before adding something to a work of mine. Just think of it as a litmus test to see if the general overlay I give reminds you of something you've all seen numerous times. Alright, here is the framework:
At the end of the journey (just after the climax [pun not intended]), the protagonist willingly and knowingly tricks 3,000 soldiers into a suicide mission so that he and eight other people can live. The cause the men are fighting for is real, but he knowingly abandons them after accomplishing his personal goal. So, in short, he is a hero of sorts for rallying men to fight evil, but he is also selfish for not actually desiring to fight evil himself. He simply wants to save himself and those with him. After finishing his goal and escaping, he completely ignores the problems of the world that already existed, along with the revolution he incites to achieve his ends.

DISCLAIMER:This work is not yet completed, I am simply experimenting with this section, and have not yet arrived at the stage where it will actually be added to the work.
In addition; some if not all references made between characters will be obscure at best due to the fact that it takes place so late in the novel (this is the prime reason I didn't post the passage in the original post).
If you can get past the aforementioned problems, any kind of opinion is appreciated. However, like I said before, I am mainly testing this for originality.
