Meanwhile in the very outskirts of the ruins of the city that once was Chicago, a luminous green glow and bolts of lightning polluted the sky. Sirens from stray police cars and ambulances blared in a warping crescendo while they were flipped and totaled across what is now a desert floor. Suddenly a light appeared, and eventually multiple lights appeared, coughing out a multitude of people, these people weren't ordinary people however, these were the players that were forced upon the Old God's decadent game. As they were released from their sudden warp, some of the players ended up vomiting; they seemed to have not gotten used to teleportation yet, though, the other players managed to hold it together. Two more figures appeared, one from a cloud of red smoke and another from a portal made through the fabric of space. From the cloud emerged Asahina, though the second figure was a new face; she was blonde, had a comely face and off the back, shot off a smile strong enough to pierce anyone's anguish. The two stood in front of the crowd, ready to announce something.
Asahina lightly cringed from the view of multiple people vomiting and would very much would like to spill her own guts out of reflex. "Old man needs to hire like, a demonic bus service or something, I don't know, anything to keep from watching this..." Asahina grimaced.
Solaria giggled, rubbing her partners back in lazy circles. ”I thought you would be used to it by now. Seeing all these waterworks reminds me that a new game is starting!” she said with excitement, apparently immune to the torrents of vomit spewed out by the contenders. ”So… you want to do it?”
To cut to the chase, Asahina pointed upward, revealing the Tower of Gaia as if they already didn't notice it before. "Alright everyone, you know the drill, step right up, climb the tower, and claim the throne!" Asahina announced as if she were someone in a carnival announcing some flashy attraction, however the tower was something more than a flashy attraction in the middle a low budget carnival; it was something of a divine flashy relic in the middle of a low budget carnival. Asahina pulled a Japanese-style fan from her kimono and flipped it out. "Now remember people, don't think you can go along and kill each other as soon as you get in, you'll be teleported to different areas of the floor at random to prevent that from happening." She said. "If you already hooked up with someone, that's fine; you all will remain together provided your chemistry with each other. But be fair warned-- there can be only one winner of this little game."
"Aww, seems like I'll be traveling alone from here." Henrietta said disappointed. "Maybe I'll just wait and see if I find someone cute or interesting to follow." Henrietta said happily as she looked around.
Joseph hardly paid attention to Solaria’s and the other girl’s announcement. He was too nauseous to do so. Traveling through that portal Solaria brought him into was the worst experience he has ever had in his life. Not only was the travel unpleasant due to the amount of motion, but within the portal were thousands of corpses. He emerged from that portal covered in blood that was not his own, and some gore clung to his clothes. Joseph brushed them off as quickly as he could, but the smell and sight of it caused him to vomit several times.
Once he emptied to contents of his stomach, including the muffin he consumed earlier, Joseph took several deep breaths in order to regain his composure, and stood up again, noticing all of the people moving in the portal that teleports them into the tower. He heard enough of the announcement to know that he’ll be sent to a random location within the tower, something that actually worried him. It’s gonna be hard to defend myself… Will I really need to fight others in order to be safe?
With that in mind, he thought of Marie. Where has she been? I hope she’s okay… I wish I could’ve been with her longer… Joseph scanned through the crowd, trying to spot Marie, but couldn’t find her. He sighed in sadness. However, he couldn’t wait any longer, since many people have already entered the tower, and he couldn’t let anyone besides himself claim the throne. Once he found an opportunity, he fell in with the crowd and leapt into the portal.
“That’s a given,” Ignacia murmured in response to these two’s so-called guidance. They make it sound like it’s easy to climb this thing from the inside, is that to simply bewilder them later on? Ignacia thought. Perhaps. The Old God hadn’t ever made it an easy place to survive in. The amount of worlds and the obstacles placed were perilous. Greed and desires would clash and people would fight to the death with each other. Such disorder was impossible to stop for one person who lacked the omnipotence that lied in the throne at the moment. Ignacia was participating to prevent such pointless games from happening in the future.
Ignacia would wait till most of the others had passed. She tends to loath very crowded places, after all. Unless she’d be the center of said crowd, anyway. But then, she thought to herself: What is she doing here… ? She pondered looking at the happy angel who seemed to be working as a guide of some kind. Well, if she is here, at least, she looked up to her smiling face, I may be treated to some cakes.[/i] Ignacia was then interrupted by a red haired woman as she bumped into her by mistake. To this, Ignacia gave a visible frown, as she hated being touched, but mistakes was a common occurrence to the mortals; it was a fact she wouldn’t be able to undo. She’d forgive this young child. She thought, taking down her frown. After all, their very imperfection was what garnered interest towards humanity, to begin with.
“Ahh! I-I’m sorry!” The girl said sheepishly, she hardly gave Ignacia a chance to look her over when she looked away. Her glassed companion stepped in to assure her apology was sincere.
“You’ll have to excuse my high strung friend here, she’s a bit unaccustomed to being around this many people, heheh.” He joked nervously. He grabbed the red headed girl by the shoulders and led her away from Ignacia, the two then met up with a green haired man in traditional Japanese attire, he seemed to be making a commotion at them and held a stern expression.
Forgiven Ignacia thought, but didn’t utter a word in return. She only gave a silent look to the backs of the couple that marched away in the crowd.
Suddenly a gate opened in the tower and gave off the same blinding light as the Old God, some probably would have mistaken it for the being himself. The two girls then step to the side and held their hands invitingly towards the opened gate.
"Good luck to you all!" They both said at the same time, though Asahina said it monotone and uninterested and Solaria said it happily and with joy. Suddenly the players all ran and piled into the gate at once, as expected, they were eager to bring the God down. Asahina sighed in relief, conjuring out her Thorn, she leaned lazily onto it and wore a face of slight concern. "There’s less than before, I guess some of 'em got wiped out before I could even get to 'em." She said. "The old man is truly ruthless." She said smiling.
”Actually, some of that’s my fault. Some of them didn’t want to follow into my hidey hole, those that did…” Solaria grimaced, remembering that there were always the unfortunate few. ”Some of them exploded into meat when travelling with me got too much for them…” She still had some of the confetti on her face from her last “customer”.
Asahina burst out laughing, this girl was truly more than what she bargained for, that innocent looking face told many stories but none of them true, this made Asahina laugh heartily. “Hidey hole? Hahaha! You are a hoot, Solaria!” What got her the most was that she could talk about killing someone so easily, it was no wonder the Old God cast her out.
”Yeah.” she said sadly, all she had wanted was for people to join the game. Instead, she got showers of blood and that had stained her dress. Now she looked so out of place, like she had just come out from a bloodbath which was not far from the truth.
Asahina then pat the girl on the back,“C’mon, we should uhh, wash your clothes.” She said. ”I’ll be sure not to cross this girl, she scares the hell outta me...no pun intended.”
The air vibrated, slowly growing to a screech. Like the cries of a giant bird, The sight of the living thorn slowly came into view. Thrusters that lifted her frame lowered in intensity as she reached her destination, throwing up great clouds of dust and dirt as she landed. “Destination: [superstructure] - Tower of Gaia reached.” She droned to herself, visual and map data both registered her knowledge as a valid one. Red fluids bathed the weapons that replaced her arms as they fizzled and cooked from the restored shields, judging by the various scratches and wounds, it wasn’t an uneventful journey for the thorn herself.
Asahina smiled as she looked upwards to find the metallic figure fly over towards her. "Hey again! You just missed everything!" Asahina said waving in Marie’s direction. Marie registered the voice as she turned to it’s source, her visual receptors pieced the facial features of Asahina to a facial polygon, finding a match in her data banks. “Species: Eastern region demon - [Oni].” She recognized.
"Oni's my slave name, call me Asahina!" The demonic girl placed her hands onto her hips and puffed out her cheeks while glaring at the Thorn. “Species: Eastern region demon - [Oni] registering under [Name]: A-SA-HI-NA. Asahina registered.”, Marie surveyed the vacant space, while others remained, it was clear that none of them was the one she registered as “Joseph Hesperian”, “[Name]: Asahina, Model code: Marie requests the verification of species: [Joseph Hesperian].”
"Hmm? Oh I think I saw him within that crowd of people. Though, they all went in running into the Tower." Asahina explained. "Be careful though, you guys will be separated apart inside. But don't worry, fate will bring you two together~" Said Asahina in a rather theatrical voice as if the two were in some romance movie. If there was any identification that Marie was aware of the demon’s meaning she had failed to express it, the final bit of injuries had since sealed itself during the conversation as a green glow suffused Marie, ridding her of foreign matter while she proceeded towards the entrance. Fearlessly, rather, logically she entered it all along registering the minute increase of her core’s rotational speed.
After careful contemplation, Asahina suddenly burst out laughing at the irony of the the two's names and their synergy with each other. "Joseph and Marie?! Are they kidding!? Hahaha!"
However when she looked to her side, Solaria was already gone. A portal was closing and on the floor, there was something that looked like cake icing. "Will be back later, saw something interesting." Was written along with a smiley face.
"That girl..." Asahina said. She eyed the icing with a raised eyebrow, what was that girl's fixation with cake anyways? It baffled Asahina a bit. Putting the thought aside, she figured she would catch up with the girl at a later time; now would be to monitor the players.
The demonic girl vanished under a dense cloud of smoke to the location of one of the players.
