As for the judges, it is Xenon and Grover on the judges' award. The other side of the contest is vote on basis, so the judges there are everyone who wanna read and vote. =)

Although I haven’t been on the forum for a while, that doesn’t mean I forgot the annual winter writing contest. So here’s my entry: Star-crossed

One question: If the entry's theme is clear enough, or has been clarified in the post somehow, do I still need to PM the judges about it?

Are we to take this as the judges will start the PM initiative, should the coldness of any particular entry be unclear to them?

Following the rule, that would appear to be the case: "You only need to be able to justify it to the judges in a PM, and let the readers judge the rest."

You must be able to justify it to us, the judges, how it is cold. This is simply if it is unclear and not even we can determine how in any way it is "cold." However, I don't see this being an issue anyone should have difficulty with, at least as far as eligibility in the contest is concerned, but I have yet to read every entry. If I find one that isn't obviously "cold," I will personally send a PM requiring justification.

Well, good. I just don't want any of us crying foul later on because you judges had no idea how it is cold and go "Hurr you never explained" followed by "But you never asked!". That would be bullshit.

Yes, it would be. The theme is more for guidance on what to write about rather than a means to disqualify people—as it should be.

As of now, the deadline for the contest is met and submissions will no longer be accepted. Stay tuned for the Reader's poll that will be posted in a couple days. The other judges and I will analyze the pieces as the polling is happening so both award-winners will be announced at once and in a timely manner.
