I've been spotting a severe deficiency in writer's voice. The bad sort of deficiency.
I know it's not something that should really be worked on, as long as the story itself is carried out nicely, but writer's voice is really the icing on the cake for the presentation of a novel. Just look at Catcher in the Rye, or the HHGTTG trilogy [of five(soon to be six :D)]. I'd say it's greatly thanks to Salinger's and Adams's voices that everyone loves their stuff-- greatly, not the only reason, so don't even start-- and why rereading is so pleasant, even if you know what's going to happen.
I'm not talking about up-'n-comers exclusively-- although, it wouldn't be a bad idea for them to start developing theirs asap-- but rather writer's voice at large. Not the sort of literary voice, like syntax and character development and dialogue, but rather an author's 'fingerprint', you know? Their writing style.
So, am I alone in this, or are there other voice-concerned writers/appreciators who would also take delight in an uprising?
