Slave's Sword

We will most definitely be doing the sequel!

Its a pretty good game, but it would also be nice to be able to turn down system sounds without also turning down voices.

My complaints are many and my compliments are few. For those who don't want to hear the manic ramblings of an insane person broken in by a porn game, the tl;dr is that you should really get Ambrosia instead. It has nearly everything that this game has except better and with way more shit.

For those that want to go along with the ride, the biggest thing is that this game is completely lacking in the core erotic appeal. That's not because of the CGs or art being bad or anything, both are well done here. The catch is that CGs are incredibly sparse. In most games the main quest has CGs sprinkled throughout so that there is always something there even for those that don't enjoy prostitution elements or aren't entertained by side quests and whatnot. With Slave's Sword, nearly ALL of the CGs are experienced one of two ways: losing in a battle or whoring your body at night. The only chance you have at experiencing CGs in the main story are by getting caught by the guards, which is only a thing at the VERY BEGINNING of the game and the VERY END of the game. And even for the end of the game since you have good gear and can actually battle the guards it's pretty unlikely that you'll have to deal with this. For every other part of the game CGs are entirely optional, and in fact pretty easy to avoid since the game doesn't tell you to go out at night and all story progression is done in the day. This goes double the only form of CGs, losing to enemies.

Considering how low the difficulty is for this game overall, you'd be forgiven for not encountering this either for most of the game. Past a certain point, enemies will just no longer even damage you. If you want see these CGs, you HAVE to kill yourself on purpose which is unappealing on the face of it. Even if this is porn, it's still a game and nobody wants to lose on purpose. It's much better to have this here as a little plus to make an genuine loss something that can still be enjoyed. But that for all but bosses, most of which are also pretty easy but at have the potential to defeat you, these might as well not be present either. When combined with the drought of CGs for the main quest, unless you're really into prostitution, the only reliable source of CGs, this game is really hard to recommend. And even then, both prostitution and defeat CGs are extremely common for porn games, and it's incredibly easy to recommend something like Ambrosia or one of Black Train's games or most other porn games just in general over this. Which is a shame because Slave's Swords premise is incredibly enticing, just executed in a way that's very disappointing.

The other thing I feel obligated to rag on is the game design, which is bad even for a porn game. The game seems like it has a variety of systems to engage with, the only one that matters for a game like this being the moral corruption system. Through increasingly selling yourself at night, Luna will grow more and more into a nymphomaniac. This is, once again, very familiar to anyone who has played at least two porn games, and this isn't an issue in itself, in fact the CGs and the way the NPCs at night will respond to your turn to the dark side is well done. The problem is that it's incredibly limited. Becoming a slut through prostitution doesn't translate over to the CGs you get when you lose a battle and isn't represented in the text through the main quest, which breaks the immersion. It also doesn't give you anything but money. See, the game presents you with two ways of making money: doing quests and selling your body. Doing quests will give you more money and experience, as well as being necessary regardless for continuing the main quest, whereas prostitution will give you less money and no experience or unique magic/skills that might only be accomplished through turning Luna's pussy inside out. This is a problem because it means the correct way to spend your time is very clearly questing, which as stated before doesn't have any mandatory CGs and as such you can basically go the entire game without seeing any. This also doesn't offer any real choice on the part of the player; submit to the corruption and gain power that way or resist temptation and gain power that way? The best games give you that choice and it makes them great in the replay value department. Slave's Sword doesn't; if you go the prostitution route you'll have to do things the vanilla way regardless and the story will basically ignore you decision in the non-night dialogue regardless.

I could go on and on until the sun burns out of the sky, and I sure would like to, but by now I think you've gotten the point. This game doesn't really do anything but prostitution competently, and even that is butchered in a number of ways. For anyone considering getting this game, I highly recommend Ambrosia instead. I've mentioned it several times now, and that's for good reason. Every single complaint I've made is fixed in Ambrosia. Everything Slave Sword is missing, like a reward in the gameplay for giving into corruption, is in Ambrosia and done well. If you're on the fence on this game, get Ambrosia. And if you've played and enjoy Slave's Sword, get Ambrosia. Ultimately this game isn't super bad, I wouldn't have finished it if I didn't have some fun with it after all, but it is very, very, very, very, very far from good and there is so much out there that does the same thing better.

And so far it looks like you can traverse the game at least entirely uncorrupted/ undefiled if those can even be words. Takes some getting used to things like guard pathings if you aren't familiar with what's going on and make mistakes, just make sure you save after reaching certain points, then suffer through the "Fail" scenes then you can open your menu to end game and start from the point of your last save, then try it again. Not that I find this method cheat-y but you can totally cheese your way through it seems.

But I understand there are those who feel doing that breaks immersion, that's fine the "Fail" scenes aren't all that bad but I'm not sure how many it takes till PC reaches a corrupt level of "Broken" and just gives up on revenge so I can't comment on that if something like that even happens. I'll have to find out in another playthrough is all which I intend to do.

Anyways, as far as I can tell I'm enjoying the story and I'll be buying Slave Sword 2!

I think I got a bug with this game. I'm in the resistance base, and Leon is saying "there is nothing to do, you might want to taken on request or two". Except, I've done 5 or 6 requests now, and nothing changes. I've even looked at playthroughs online, and after doing 2 quests, they'd get told that Leon is looking for them. I've been to every building in day and night, and have talked to everyone. Either I'm doing something wrong, or I got a messed up save.

This is my 1.5th most fave RPG game, ever!:) Right behind Final Fantasy 9, and surpassing my 2nd most fave: Final Fantasy 8. =D Not for vanilla-loving people, Luna's eroticism and lewdness on exhibitionism (walking naked at night!), prostitution, gangbang, double penetration, monster sex, human sex, I thoroughly felt this game is made for me. :)

A solid RPG adventure. I played saving constantly so I could go purposely lose to see scenes, but kept my perfect game alive.
