...Well, all he wanted was to be loved by somebody, whether it's a girlfriend or even a mother. In a way, his father asking them to stay together and be happy was probably his way of being a good father to the end. Considering the results, I'd say he was an amazing father, essentially giving his son a new lease on life (or at least, providing the method for it) with his request.
Great ending though. So hey, she actually really became an actual mother, he most likely got a proper job considering the suit, and even the portrait of his father smiled! What a happy ending, this was definitely quite the experience.
