Yes, I had heard of the term, but from what I have read, it isn't a matter of self imposed social isolation or being inexperienced with sex. Just like NEETs aren't just lazy or spoiled.

I think the issue is a very cultural one. There are very specific expectations of men that are imposed by society (other men and most importantly women) and of course one of the highest cost of living in the world. To have a family requires not just a good income (families are expensive) but you need to find a partner who has realistic expectations. The declining rate isn't just due to herbivore men, though they are an easy target. But if a man can't get a job, in a soft economy, with an aging workforce that hasn't yet retired, and able to provide certain 'necities' such as a large house, a car, etc. Not to mention, after getting a job, the very long hours can make it very hard to meet someone.

Just seems like it is a complex social issue, with Hervivores becoming the easy out. But then, we play video games and have all become violent psychopaths as a result eh?
