I choose to interpret this as the fate of those that come to see her as monsters. She was deciding if she would end up killing him or not when she asked. In demon form she might not be inclined to hold back against someone who isn't compliant.

The guys who brought the young man are in on it - they are possibly others she's helped before. They were talking as they were because one of them wasn't sure she'd fully recovered from the last ritual yet. They may or may not know she sometimes kills people, she might be covering it up as "the ritual was not successful" or such.

I volunteer that, without giving away too much, and as the story dialog states, by helping the Holy Mother to get relief after the ritual, MC is putting himself in Great Peril (say-no-more, say-no-more).
